Tutu Tuesday: A Blast From the Past! (Post #2965)
Hello, my lovelies! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things tutu, darling! This week, for our #TutuTuesday journey through time, we're whisking ourselves back to 23rd October, 1888. Can you imagine, my dears? Over 130 years ago! Time flies, doesn't it?
Now, let me tell you, my darling readers, travelling back in time to this era was absolutely exhilarating! I stepped out of the TARDIS (it's a bit of a secret - shh!) straight into the heart of London. And you wouldn't believe what I saw! The fashion! The streets! The carriages! And guess what? It wasn't all bonnets and bustles just yet. The era of la belle époque - oh, the romance! - was beginning to bloom.
Speaking of bloom, let's chat tutus. I mean, they weren't exactly tutues then, not in the way we know them today, were they? Think more Romantic Period - a glorious cloud of layers of gauzy tulle, perhaps a little frilly around the waist. Back in 1888, ballerinas were twirling in whimsical white creations, ethereal and dreamlike. There was something enchanting about seeing their costumes swirl in the warm, golden theatre lighting - truly the epitome of grace! You wouldn't catch me in white tulle these days, though! Pink, darling, is definitely more moi.
I must confess, I was a tad worried that pink wouldn't be quite the sensation back then. But I needn't have worried! Pink was starting to gain popularity, although it was still associated with baby boys. Just imagine, darling, if we'd had a pink-clad tutu-wearing society back then! But never fear, we're building a glorious pink empire in the present, and I can almost hear the whoops and the "hoorays" from the past!
To add a touch of glamour to our time-travel adventure, I had to pop by Covent Garden! Ah, the iconic Opera House! So, you might be wondering what spectacular show graced the stage on 23rd October 1888? A classic by Tchaikovsky? A grand opera perhaps?
Well, my dears, a delightful surprise was in store! On that very day, *“The Amber Witch”, *a romantic musical extravaganza with a fairy-tale twist, played its enchanting melody on the grand stage! Oh, how I wish I could have seen the magnificent costumes, heard the sweet tunes, and maybe even snagged a delicious treat in the fancy box seats! (Maybe even a tiny bite of something pink!)
I am just itching to share some snapshots of the gorgeous costumes I discovered in this trip! Just wait till you see the details on the frills and embellishments, darling! Think hand-painted lace, the delicate sheen of satin, and oh, the fluffy feather boas! This period was a dream for any budding fashionista, myself included!
I'm sure, my dear readers, that you are simply dying to hear what I shopped for! Oh, the treasures I found - vintage brooches with sparkling rhinestones, an exquisite silk scarf with a dreamy paisley print, and even a stunning pearl necklace that whispered stories of bygone days! I even picked up a beautiful, fluffy tulle scarf, oh my - the pink tones were simply divine! Imagine me twirling with such a gorgeous piece in the breeze - absolutely magnifique!
And of course, no trip is complete without indulging in the delightful transport options of the time! This journey, I had the pleasure of a first-class train ticket - oh, the luxury! Leather seating, wide windows overlooking sprawling green landscapes, and a steaming cup of tea... Ah, bliss! The journey itself felt like an escape to a bygone era - the clinking of the train tracks, the puffing of steam, the bustling platform scene at every stop - I almost wished the journey would never end.
Speaking of wishing things would never end, I wish this post could last forever! I've had such a delightful trip through the history of tutus, and you, my dear readers, have been along for the ride! I hope I’ve transported you with my journey to the past. As you all know, time travel is about embracing the past while keeping an eye on the future.
Until next time, keep twirling and never stop dreaming of a world overflowing with pink tutus!
*Remember, darling, to share your own Tutu Tuesdays! Send me pictures of you sporting your most glamorous tutus. And don't forget, a little bit of pink magic goes a long way! *
With much love and tulle,
Emma
