Tutu Tuesday: #2968 - A Victorian Waltz Back in Time!
Hello my darling dears! 🩰💖
It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu enthusiast, and it’s #TutuTuesday! Can you believe we’re already in November? The air is crisp, the leaves are changing colour, and here at pink-tutu.com we're preparing for the most magical time of the year… that's right, ballet season!
This week, I've taken a trip back to the Victorian Era, a time of elegance, frills, and oh yes, definitely some very exciting tutus! Let’s journey back together to 13th November, 1888 and discover what was making a stir in the world of ballet.
A Dance Through the Decades: Victorian Era Elegance
You wouldn't catch me in a Victorian era petticoat without a lovely fluffy tutu layered on top, darling! The Victorians were obsessed with layers and detail, and this definitely translated to the stage. I imagine they'd be delighted by my love for tutus and pink! I’ve been researching old programs and costumes, and you know what, some of their styles are remarkably modern, just with more fabric! Imagine – silk layers upon layers, swirling as the ballerinas danced. The tutus were often white, or pastel colours, made with tulle, which is definitely still a staple for tutus today!
But here's the fun part: the dance style was all about grace and refinement. It wasn’t just about technical tricks – though those were there, don’t you worry – but it was more about elegant poses, fluid movements, and romanticism. It was practically poetry in motion, and it reminds me of those beautifully slow, swirling waltzes we see at the opera.
A Glimpse of the Past:
To bring a touch of that Victorian elegance to your everyday, here are some of my tips:
Embellish your everyday look! A pretty pink scarf or a charming brooch, and definitely a lovely pair of pearl earrings!
Layer your looks. I love wearing a delicate petticoat or skirt under a floaty tutu for that romantic Victorian feel, and then I'll accessorize with lace or a fancy ribbon!
Add a vintage touch! Thrift shops and antique stores are perfect places to find amazing Victorian accessories, or a stylish antique handbag that you can wear to the ballet with a fabulously chic pink tutu.
The Big Show in 1888:
Now let's get down to what was going on in the world of ballet on this very day, 13th November 1888 ! Sadly, no massive premières or debuts that day - the dance world, it seems, needed a rest! But it was probably a pretty typical day at the theatre. Ballet lovers in places like London, Paris, and St. Petersburg, could have been enjoying the beauty of ballet at one of the many elegant theaters in these cities. If they were lucky, maybe they'd have caught a performance of La Bayadère, a famous Russian ballet that is always stunning! I certainly plan to see it someday – those tutus are something else!
Where in the World?
To transport myself back to the year 1888, I travelled by train (all aboard! choo-choo! - it’s just the best mode of travel for a ballerina on the go!) to Vienna, Austria. Vienna is home to a grand ballet tradition and is always bubbling with ballet history and fascinating dancers! It's hard to imagine the world without Vienna and ballet - both bring so much beauty and grace into our lives.
And Finally... My Pink Tutu Challenge:
So darlings, my lovely tutu-loving friends, I'm on a mission to get the whole world wearing pink tutus! Whether you're dancing, twirling around your kitchen, or just strolling through the park, a little pink tutu can make any day more fabulous!
What will your pink tutu adventures be this week? Leave me a comment and tell me all about it, or tag me on social media! And be sure to join me again next Tuesday for another installment of Tutu Tuesday - because I have some exciting, and very glittery news to share, I’m talking shimmering tutus! Oh, you’re going to LOVE it!
Until then, twirl on, you beautiful things!
Love, Emma 💖🩰✨
