#TutuTuesday: A Peek Into the Past - Ballet Tutu History on 13th August, 1889
Hello my dearest tutu lovers! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, bringing you another dose of ballet history from my #TutuTuesday blog! Today, we're stepping back in time to the 13th of August, 1889 - a date that just sparkles with elegance and artistry. As always, I'm channeling my inner history buff (and, of course, my passion for pink tutus!) to bring you the most delightful and fashionable peek into the past.
Remember, dear readers, we're journeying to the very heart of ballet - Paris, darling! Think boulevard cafes, exquisite pastries, and the whisper of silk against cobblestones. Oh, and the ballet! I’m so very lucky to have secured a box seat for a performance tonight, but more on that later! I'm utterly smitten by the Paris Opera House - it’s so grand and elegant, the perfect setting for the stories woven on stage by these graceful ballerinas. It's truly magical, especially with my darling pink tutu making me feel every inch the star! I’m sure you can imagine me whirling amongst the ladies in their exquisite gowns!
What’s the date all about?Well, the 13th of August, 1889 is not a momentous date for the performance of ballet. Instead, it is a date filled with intrigue when it comes to the history of fashion! This date marks a pivotal moment for fashion with the debut of the New York World's Fair in, you guessed it, New York!
This fair was all about progress, showcasing inventions and developments across various fields, and naturally, it attracted fashionistas and designers from around the globe, a real fashion explosion, if you will. This event wasn't just about showcasing clothing styles, but the very fabric of the clothing! Oh how I wish I was there - imagine the delights of all that silk, satin, and velvet!
Now, let's delve into the *tutu connection, you say? Well, imagine a delightful whirl of new, innovative styles and designs. This date, however indirectly, connected to our beloved tutus! You see, at this fair, materials like new synthetics, like *artificial silk, were showcased. These would quickly impact fashion and dance in the years to come, impacting the development and the use of fabric for our delightful ballet tutus. We may not have seen tutus themselves, but I just know those wonderful fabric innovations would’ve surely inspired the fashion of dancewear!
Tutus at the Opera!I've made my way from Paris to my box at the Opera house for tonight's performance, a treat for me and a treat for you! Oh how I’ve loved soaking in the scene - I've even nabbed the perfect photo op! I'm surrounded by elegant gentlemen in top hats and ladies dressed to the nines. Just as I thought, pink suits me perfectly for this elegant gathering - the ladies around me are wearing stunning outfits with big, bouncy tulle bows, and it's making me feel quite inspired.
I see whispers of lace in my darling tutu too! Oh how I’m enthralled by this delightful performance! We are witnessing the rise of “the Russian school,” - dancers are moving with this new athleticism, defying gravity with grand jumps and beautiful leaps. It’s a real show of athletic grace and talent! Oh! My little heart is truly thrilled! It reminds me just why I dedicate so much of my life to these delightful dances! Oh my - I’m ready to take notes - what new fashion inspirations are waiting to inspire my next post for my #TutuTuesday blog!
I will leave you now for some serious tutuing! Have a delightful week ahead! If you fancy taking a stroll through my blog, please find me on the www.pink-tutu.com site!
And remember, wear a pink tutu. Always wear a pink tutu!
Until next time, my tutu lovers!
