Tutu Tuesday: #3009 – A Glimpse Into the Victorian Ballet World!
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back with another #TutuTuesday adventure, and oh, what an adventure it is! Today, I've hopped on the time-traveling express (the train ride was fabulous, by the way, all plush velvet seats and swirling floral patterns!), and I've landed in the year 1889.
It's 27th August, and as usual, I've packed my most vibrant pink tutu, the one with the sequined butterflies. It's positively positively blooming with Parisian charm, and perfectly complements this oh-so-dramatic Victorian setting!
You wouldn't believe the bustling scene here in the heart of Paris! Fashion is flourishing – just like my favourite pink blooms! And ballet, oh darling, is a symphony of swirling skirts and pointed toes!
I just came from a performance at the Paris Opéra, and let me tell you, I was mesmerised. The costumes were beyond compare – lavish silk and tulle, feathers that almost reached the ceiling, and sparkling jewellery that lit up the stage. Imagine the feeling of dancing under that gorgeous chandelier, twirling in a soft, billowing tutu – truly enchanting!
Speaking of tutus, I’m positively thrilled to be back in the era where they truly became the darling of ballet! You know, before this time, ballerinas weren't allowed to dance freely. They were constrained by tight bodices and long, heavy skirts – how utterly impractical! Then came the glorious tutu, a liberating and elegant revolution!
This week's Tutu Tale
The 1880s marked a real turning point for tutus. They became shorter, more form-fitting, and focused on accentuating the ballerina's graceful movements. Imagine how dazzling those quick leaps and pirouettes must have looked! Gone were the restrictive layers of the past, replaced with the soft, swirling elegance of the shorter tutu – much like a blossoming rose opening its petals to the sun.
It's been wonderful watching the evolution of the tutu. The delicate romanticism of the Victorian era influenced everything about the tutu’s design - the lace trim, the tulle ruffles, the elegant lines - every detail contributing to that captivating air of grace and feminine charm.
What's Trendy Now?
While in the heart of Parisian fashion, I couldn't help but scope out the latest trends. The women here are sporting bustles (big, padded extensions on the backs of their dresses - quite the statement!). Think of a tutu, but for everyday life! They’re a tad more dramatic than my usual aesthetic, but undeniably stylish in their own way!
You can also spot a surge of florals in fabrics, prints, and hats! From roses and lilies to dainty forget-me-nots, they adorn every fashionable lady's wardrobe. I particularly love the delicate touch of lilies in a blush pink, echoing my own favourite hue! It makes me think of tutus, don’t you think?
**Tutu Tip: Think about it - if the fashionable women of this era are embracing voluminous bustles and elaborate floral patterns, why shouldn’t we go all out with our tutus too? Embrace the playful femininity! This is a fantastic opportunity to go all out with colour and ruffles!
This Week's Ballet Treat
After my little time travelling fashion expedition, I'm off to another ballet performance! This one's a little closer to home in Derbyshire, at our beloved local theatre. It's a revival of "La Sylphide", a ballet that practically screams "elegant tutus" from the top of the stage! I simply cannot wait to witness those romantic, floating tutus glide across the stage. And naturally, my best pink tutu will be there to celebrate!
Let's all embrace the joy of tutus, darling! What are you waiting for? Step out in your own ballerina style! And don’t forget, keep your eyes on www.pink-tutu.com next Tuesday for my next #TutuTuesday post!
Until next time, may your days be filled with the delightful swish of tutus, Emma x
