Tutu Tuesday #3012: A Whirlwind Through Time – September 17th, 1889!

Dearest Tutu Lovers,

It's me, Emma, back with another peek into the enchanting history of tutus! Buckle up, my lovelies, as we're about to take a whirlwind trip back to the glittering year of 1889.

This week, we're heading to Paris, darling, the heart and soul of fashion, and especially the beating heart of the ballet world. Imagine – a symphony of light streaming through a Parisian opera house, the thrum of an orchestra, and the magical grace of dancers on stage. Simply breathtaking, isn't it?

You know, it's quite amazing to think that back in 1889, tutus were already quite a sight! We've got Marie Taglioni to thank for that – the legend herself who dared to take the stage in a flowing, light-as-air skirt and mesmerized everyone.

Now, I may be a time traveler, but even I have to admit, that tutus back then were slightly different than what we're accustomed to today. They were longer, with more layers, giving them a kind of romantic, sweeping silhouette. You wouldn't see those dizzyingly short modern tutus back then – oh, what I wouldn't give to time travel a few tutus back from our own times for my own collection! Sigh.

And talking about fashion, darlings, let's take a peek at the stylish street trends of 1889. Imagine large hats with delicate feathers, flowing dresses with billowing sleeves, corsets that cinched in the waist and – you guessed it – the most beautiful pink and lavender tones imaginable! And while the colours are definitely something I can get on board with, you know I’d love to replace those constricting corsets with a comfy and practical corset cover, with a fluffy, pink tutu worn beneath.

1889 also brought the very first Eiffel Tower in Paris! Just imagine strolling under its archway in a dreamy, pink tutu! Now wouldn't that be a picture-perfect Parisian moment? You just know that would look divine for my ballet-inspired fashion snaps – especially as Paris has so many charming locations where a pink tutu just belongs.

Now, you know I love to take in a ballet show whenever I time travel, and back then the big event was the Paris Opera's production of La Bayadère. Can you imagine seeing a show with lavish costumes, intricate choreography and heart-wrenching drama – talk about a truly inspiring ballet performance!

You just have to picture yourself walking in Paris with a bright pink, voluminous, and fluffy tulle tutu. The cobblestones, the Eiffel Tower, a sprinkle of glitter on your eyelashes, a pink and lavender silk dress, some fine, sparkling brooches and the magnificent architecture of the time - well, what’s not to love?

Even though I’m an advocate for the tutus of the future – and dare I say, the best times are ahead for our love for tulle - it's quite lovely to see the beginnings of our love affair with tutus back then, in all its history and beauty. Oh, how I'd love to twirl alongside the ballerinas of that era and maybe share some fashion tips with them, but shh, don't tell them my time traveling secret, it's better if we keep things a secret for now...

Of course, my darling tutu lovers, it's not only the shows we adore, but also shopping, dancing and attending class! Can you just imagine the fashion frenzy that would have surrounded this year's Paris Fashion Week? Sigh. The intricate embroideries, the silks and satins... oh, how it makes a girl dream!

Now, remember to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below – are you ready for a pink tutu adventure with me? We have plenty of exciting tutu-filled history to explore!

And remember, every day can be Tutu Tuesday if you let it be! Keep dancing, my darlings, keep smiling, and remember:

Pink is the perfect colour for the heart and for a tutu!

Yours always,

Emma
