#TutuTuesday: A Peek at the Past, a Whirl in the Present (Post #3016)

Greetings, my darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, and welcome back to my humble corner of the internet where we celebrate the delightful history of the ballet tutu. Today, my lovelies, we're taking a grand train journey back in time ā€“ specifically, to the 15th of October, 1889! Buckle your petticoats, my dears, itā€™s a trip that will leave you with a flutter of excitement!

This week, as the clocks chime three oā€™clock and the London streets bustle with life, I find myself swept back to an era where gaslight casts an ethereal glow upon the stage. This date, my dear readers, marks a very special occasion! A certain legendary performance graced the boards of the Royal Opera House that very night ā€“ the grand premiere of ā€œGiselleā€.

Ah, Giselle! Itā€™s almost a clichĆ© to say this, but truly, this ballet is a treasure chest of exquisite costuming. My dear Giselle, you graced the stage with such a tender heart and a diaphanous white tulle tutu, its layers catching the moonlight like snowflakes in a winter storm. This, my lovelies, is one of the original designs for the romantic ballet style tutu, a far cry from the elaborate creations of today, but nevertheless, oh-so-captivating.

Remember those grand old ballrooms where ladies twirled in extravagant dresses? This, dear readers, is the same elegant grace that finds its way into Giselleā€™s tutu, creating the effect of a beautiful, flowing mist.

Can you imagine the gentle breeze that dances through the stage as Giselle twirls? I find myself transported right to the heart of this elegant performance, dreaming of romantic, starlit nights and the graceful twirling of ballerinas.

Now, Iā€™ll tell you a little secret: for someone who loves pink as much as I do, the original tutus were initially all about the white. Yes! Just like Giselleā€™s famous design. The soft white fabric embodied purity, lightness, and the very spirit of ethereal dreams. It mirrored the innocence of Giselle's love, echoing her purity. A breathtaking sight, truly. A whisper of perfection.

Yet, you canā€™t deny the charm of pink! Isnā€™t that right, my darling readers? A pink tutu evokes that same sense of enchanting beauty but with a joyful energy that is truly inspiring. A burst of joy that lifts the spirits! Now, while the grand ballets of this era weren't bursting with pink, it was a colour that began making a slow, delicate entrance.

Imagine it, my lovelies! The elegant swirls of pink ribbons, silhouettes, and delicate flower motifs in the 19th centuryā€™s ballet costumes. This, my lovelies, is the seed of our modern love affair with pink!

Speaking of love affairs, we canā€™t forget the journey we took on this week's #TutuTuesday. For me, every day is #TutuTuesday. But I particularly enjoy our monthly excursions through the archives of tutu history, exploring the captivating evolution of the iconic ballerina garb! Itā€™s an ongoing saga of delicate fabric, creative artistry, and, of course, the unyielding spirit of every tutu-loving ballerina.

Donā€™t forget, darlings, weā€™re not just talking about history. Our mission, of course, is to spread the magic of tutus, and make this pink wonder part of everyday fashion. I believe a little bit of pink goes a long way. So put on your pink tutu! Strut your stuff on the streets of London and let the world see your fabulous confidence! Weā€™ve had all sorts of wonderful fun on my blog and have a plethora of exciting content coming your way!

Keep a lookout for the next #TutuTuesday! We're always looking for new ways to make the ballet world more colourful, more joyous, and, of course, more fabulous.

Until next time, stay twirling and stay fabulously you! And donā€™t forget, spread the pink love.

All my love, Emma, your resident pink tutu enthusiast. www.pink-tutu.com
