Bonjour mes chères amies! Emma here, back from another whirlwind trip through time! This week, I've landed in Paris, 1891, and let me tell you, it's a ballet lover's dream! The Parisian opera house is positively bursting with talent, and the tutus... oh, the tutus! They are truly a sight to behold.
Before we dive into the history of these magnificent garments, let's take a moment to revel in the opulence of Parisian life in 1891. The streets are filled with the rhythmic clip-clop of horse-drawn carriages, the air is thick with the perfume of lilies and lavender, and ladies in elaborate gowns swirl by with a certain air of grace and refinement. It's a world where every detail is meticulously crafted, and fashion is an art form in itself. I can't resist indulging in a spot of shopping – after all, one cannot travel to Paris without a new hat, can one?
But back to tutus! In this era, the tutu, though still very much in its early stages, is already taking its place as a symbol of grace, strength, and femininity. Imagine, my darlings, a ballerina's dress crafted from layers of tulle, each layer a delicate whisper against the skin. It’s a design that makes even the most ordinary movements look like poetry in motion!
While the tutus of this time are perhaps less voluminous than the romantic tutu, they are nevertheless breathtaking in their simplicity and elegance. Think classic romantic lines, carefully crafted to reveal the beauty of the dancer's legs, and just a touch of embroidery for added embellishment.
This Tuesday, the ballet world is abuzz with anticipation for a new production. It is a romantic piece, "Giselle", with its themes of love, loss, and betrayal. I'm already imagining the ballerina, graceful in her billowing tulle skirt, her every move imbued with emotion.
Now, speaking of the "Giselle" ballet, let's have a chat about this special date, 21st July, 1891. On this very day, the famous Russian ballerina, Anna Pavlova, was born! Imagine, this tiny little girl who would grow up to become one of the most revered ballerinas of all time!
The world is so much smaller than it used to be thanks to the marvels of modern transport. As you all know, I'm an avid fan of train travel. In this time period, it's my primary method of time travel. The chugging of the train engine is like a rhythm section to my life! Just imagine yourself sitting by the window, enjoying the passing scenery as the world whizzes by. It's a form of escapism, don't you think? And, oh my, the stylish carriages of this era are utterly enchanting, wouldn't you agree?
So, what is my mission this Tuesday, my lovelies? You guessed it! To find the prettiest pink tutu in Paris! I have a hunch there’s a tiny Parisian boutique nestled down a cobbled street that holds a treasure for me! It's only a matter of time before I find the perfect piece to add to my growing collection. I shall return with stories of Parisian shops, beautiful tutus, and perhaps even a glimpse into the world of Anna Pavlova herself!
Until next week, stay radiant and never be afraid to twirl!
Yours in pink and tulle, Emma x
