Hello darlings! It’s your favourite pink-loving, tutu-obsessed blogger Emma here, back for another Tuesday trip through the annals of ballet history! Today we're travelling right back to 1891, so buckle up your tutu straps, put on your most whimsical frock, and grab a spot of tea – we're going on a sartorial adventure!
Now, 1891 was a rather delightful year for fashion, my dears. It was a time when a lady could still flaunt a voluminous, ruffled gown without fear of judgment – just picture layers upon layers of lace and satin, all held up with a beautiful, intricate corset! Oh, to have been a woman then, living for elegance and femininity! And speaking of elegance…
Let’s talk tutus! The 1890s saw a change in the tutu scene. Gone were the heavy, multi-layered skirts of the Romantic era, and in came the “Romantic tutu.” These, my darlings, were light as a feather, floating around the stage in a symphony of graceful movement. They were shorter, more ethereal, and, best of all, revealed the beautiful line of the dancer's legs! Can you imagine the sensation this caused in the ballet world? I'm telling you, it was all the rage!
But alas, our adventure today isn't about ballet tutus solely, because a trip back in time wouldn’t be complete without a dose of contemporary events. Now, as we sashayed our way back to 1891, we’ve landed ourselves in… drumroll please … Paris, France! (Of course, where else?)
And what were the Parisians up to on this very special 8th of September? Let’s see... the world was buzzing about a brand new steam engine on the Eiffel Tower. Oh la la! Such innovation, and think of the lovely views it must have offered! They even had the pleasure of celebrating the birth of Georges Clemenceau, a politician who would later play a big part in the First World War, can you believe it?
It makes me wonder, were any young women dreaming of a ballet career that day, just as I dreamed of exploring different eras? Did any young ballet dancers glide across the stage in their whimsical tutus to roaring applause, mesmerising audiences with their moves? Oh, to be a fly on the wall in one of the Paris Opera performances, wouldn’t that be the most enchanting experience?
And now, darling readers, to my very favourite part: shopping! For a true Tutu Tuesday indulgence, one has to find the perfect ensemble! Picture this: a beautiful silk gown in a pale pink shade, with layers of shimmering lace ruffles, the whole affair adorned with sparkling jewels. This, my dear reader, would be the perfect look to set off a simple, yet graceful, white tutu. For the ultimate Parisian flair, I’d throw on a velvet shawl with satin trim – tres chic!
My dearest readers, I hope you’ve enjoyed our whirlwind journey back to 1891, just in time to glimpse the enchanting world of ballet, the fashionable trends of the day, and even the day's news!
Remember, darling, we are never truly fully dressed without a pink tutu! Don’t forget to tune in next week for another adventure in #TutuTuesday! Until then, keep twirling!
Your dear Emma
