#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History: 1892-01-19 (Blog Post #3134)
Hello lovelies, and welcome back to Pink Tutu, the place where the only thing we love more than ballet is a good, pink tutu!
This week on #TutuTuesday, we're travelling through time to the glamorous world of 1892! Just imagine: a world of corsets, bustles, and bonnets. (No, my dears, we can't wear tutus to a proper Victorian soirée!)
However, even with all the fussy frills and fussy societal rules, the ballet world was truly blossoming! You see, it wasn't all about pauses and poses and tutus weren't as ubiquitous as they are now. Back in 1892, a ballerina had to work for their pink. 😉
And this Tuesday, we're celebrating the launch of one very special tutu: the first ever "professional" tutu, the one with all the glorious layers and tiers! Think about how the original ballet dancers, all those years ago, twirled with one layer of netting - that must've been such hard work, even in that wonderful pre-Lycra era!
As you can imagine, back then, dancers were often relegated to wearing the same costume again and again, but when the famous Parisian ballet company, Les Grands Ballets unveiled the new, grand design of "the professional tutu", there was a collective gasp and the gasp was “I want that!" It must have been magical!
Now, this design had more tiers of netting, it was made with lighter fabrics, and, most importantly, it featured that iconic, swirling, cloud of delicate ruffles! It must've been breathtaking! You'll never find me at home without my 5 layers of tutus. I believe more is always more.
So, imagine, lovely readers, the first time a ballerina ever put on a truly “professional” tutu, a piece of tulle specially made to show off their every graceful movement! Can you feel the anticipation? You'd imagine they must've been dancing with such confidence.
That day, 1892-01-19, became the day ballet, for lack of a better word, went professional. Imagine that. You are sitting in the audience, and suddenly, a vision of pink, layers of netting, floats on stage, all with that magic feeling. We owe a huge thank you to the Les Grands Ballets and their magical tutus!
I actually made a trip on the train (in a delightful, matching pink traveling suit!) to Paris to watch Les Grands Ballets perform last week, and you wouldn't believe how gorgeous the tutus were, just a cascade of fabric and loveliness, all pink and white and blush - oh, the elegance! My heart just fluttered every time the ballerinas twirled!
Today, I'm making my own "professional" tutu with tiers and tiers of netting! You see, I've found my true calling - to become the ambassador of pink tutus! All the ladies should dance with that beautiful, graceful pink around them! After all, tutus make us happy, they remind us to embrace our inner child, and let's be honest, there's just something so magical about them. Don't you agree? 😉
But you know me, I love to mix things up! I'm thinking of adding a touch of vintage glamour with a dash of modern flair! Perhaps a little bit of beading for that added touch of Parisian chic?
In the meantime, remember, it's not just about the tutu. It's about expressing ourselves, dancing our hearts out, and celebrating the art form that we all adore: ballet!
So, darling readers, are you ready for a Tutu Tuesday of joy and dancing?
Go and twirl! And don’t forget to send in those #TutuTuesday photos to pink-tutu.com
Till next week, remember, life's better in pink - and remember: Keep twirling, and keep believing in the magic! 💕
