#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 1892-02-23! 🩰💕

Hello darlings! Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com for another exciting instalment of #TutuTuesday! It's me, your favourite Derbyshire lass Emma, and this week, my time machine has whisked me right back to the glittering, glamorous era of February 23rd, 1892! Buckle up, lovelies, because we're diving headfirst into the enchanting world of ballet tutus and all the fabulousness that surrounded them back in the day.

As always, before I share all the delicious tutu details, I've got to tell you about my adventures. I took a scenic train journey right from the bustling streets of London to Paris! The scenery was simply breathtaking. You wouldn't believe the gorgeous views. Then, of course, Paris - oh my, it's a true wonderland for any tutu-loving girl!

Now, back to 1892! Let's set the scene, shall we? This was the Victorian era, when a woman’s elegance and grace were highly prized. And oh, how could one embody those qualities better than by swirling around in a perfectly crafted tutu?

In this period, tutus were not the super-short, wispy creations you see on stage today. Think of them as being longer, a little fuller, and with more romantic ruffles. Imagine soft layers of tulle, meticulously hand-sewn and flowing with each elegant step. Pure perfection!

Now, wouldn't you be utterly delighted to know that this particular Tuesday, February 23rd, 1892, witnessed a truly momentous occasion: The Parisian premiere of "La Source!" This romantic ballet is a delightful dream of a show, overflowing with delicate choreography and beautiful, inspiring costumes.

But before I gush too much about the exquisite costumes (you know I love me a good fashion adventure!), I must tell you that "La Source" doesn't quite feature the traditional tutu we know today. No, dear lovelies, the stars of this ballet gracefully pirouetted in layered, graceful tunics, very much in line with the more elegant, full style of the time.

Of course, there was always the dramatic pouf of the skirt, highlighting the delicate beauty of every pirouette and grand jeté. Oh, those costumes were utterly dreamy!

Imagine, for a moment, those grand theaters of Paris, filled with the rich aroma of perfume, laughter, and excitement. Imagine the shimmering gaslights casting a soft glow on the graceful ballerinas as they perform, each movement imbued with delicate elegance. Pure bliss!

So, darlings, this was a week that reminded us that ballet, at its very core, has always been about beauty, grace, and story-telling. I just love how these costumes evoke such emotions, don't you?

This is the magic of ballet, dear friends, and tutus have played a starring role in every step of this incredible journey!

As we look back, we see the elegant, flowing styles of the past that have paved the way for the stunning tutus of today. Just as fashion has evolved through the years, so have tutus! We have seen tutus go from the more traditional long lengths of the Victorian era to the shorter, more streamlined versions of today.

This week's lesson is that the power of a tutu knows no boundaries! It's not just about its look but the power it has to tell a story, evoke emotion, and capture hearts with each pirouette!

Don't forget to keep sharing your own #TutuTuesday adventures with me! We are always on the lookout for fellow tutu enthusiasts here at www.pink-tutu.com.

Next week, I'm diving deep into the history of tutus again, but this time, we're journeying into the 1920s. This time we will be looking at a little more freedom, shorter hemlines, and dare I say a whole new approach to tutus! You won't want to miss it, so keep those eyes peeled for another inspiring tutu tale next Tuesday!

Now, darling, until then, let's dance!

Your darling pink tutu friend, Emma x
