#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 3160 - A Glimpse into the World of 1892!

Hello lovelies, and welcome back to another enchanting #TutuTuesday on www.pink-tutu.com! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveler, and today we're waltzing our way back to July 19th, 1892.

I know what you're thinking, "Emma, 1892? That's so long ago!" And you're right, my dears! But, trust me, this time period is simply bursting with ballet-tastic secrets and fascinating fashion that'll make your tutus twirl.

This week, my journey took me to the heart of Parisian fashion. Now, Parisian fashion in the 1890s was truly something to behold, with corsets as stiff as a ballerina's stance and skirts that flowed like the grace of a swan.

Let me tell you, getting around in this era wasn't easy! The bustling streets were filled with carriages and pedestrians, all competing for space. The good thing is, Paris is just so full of charm. I adore hopping onto a horse-drawn carriage and being whisked away to the heart of the ballet world. The opera house is always a magical experience - a symphony of sound, vibrant colours, and the mesmerizing elegance of the dancers.

Speaking of ballerinas... Now, you might be wondering how tutus looked in 1892?

While the romantic tutu with its voluminous layers was still making a grand appearance, 1892 was actually a time of great change in ballet costume. Imagine, ladies, a revolution in the world of tutus!

Ballerinas began adopting a more form-fitting style, with tutus closer to the body and made from soft, diaphanous materials like tulle and silk. This allowed for greater freedom of movement, showcasing the graceful leaps and turns in all their glory. Imagine dancing like the wind in such a lightweight garment - what a dream!

Of course, my dearest tutu-loving friends, I just HAD to try on a few of these 1890s tutus myself! Picture me in a shimmering ivory tulle confection, with a touch of shimmering silver sequins. I felt as though I was floating through a cloud! It's all about experimenting and embracing the essence of each era, wouldn't you agree?

On July 19th, 1892, the famous Parisian theatre, the Opera Garnier, was alive with excitement. It was hosting a ballet called ā€œThe Little Humpbacked Horseā€, a whimsical fairytale with beautiful music. I found myself utterly captivated by the performance.

One thing that truly fascinates me is the costumes of this era. Every piece had its own elegance - from the ballerinaā€™s delicate tutus to the sumptuous costumes of the other characters. The intricate embroidery, the playful use of colour, and the sheer effortlessness of the whole presentation was an absolute joy to behold.

You know, sometimes, you just want to wear something spectacular that takes you out of the ordinary. In 1892, ballerinas embraced a look that exuded effortless elegance and effortlessly reflected the times.

After the performance, I was off to indulge in a spot of fashion shopping. Let me tell you, a trip to Paris would never be complete without it. I visited the grandest boutiques, where elegant silks and lace were stacked high in towers. It was heaven on earth, I assure you!

But you know what I found particularly intriguing? Back in those days, the ballet was often considered the ultimate fashion show, inspiring designs for evening gowns and other fabulous garments. Now, wouldn't that be something we could recreate? Imagine, the graceful lines and elegance of the ballet translated into modern-day evening wear - what a magical fashion world!

Now, as you all know, my life is a journey fueled by passion and an undying love for tutus! This trip back in time wasnā€™t just about tutus and ballerinas. Itā€™s also a reminder that the past holds many wonders just waiting to be rediscovered.

So, next time you slip on a beautiful tutu, think about all the incredible stories it has to tell. The stories of fashion, artistry, and a spirit of timeless grace that continues to enchant the world.

Keep those tutus twirling and stay curious! Until next #TutuTuesday!

With love,

Emma xx

P.S. For all my London lovelies, I just had to add a little bit of history about the train! Back in the 1890s, the train was truly a marvel of modern engineering. It became the quintessential mode of transportation for travelling between major cities. So, if you find yourselves in Derbyshire and need to hop on a journey to London for a fabulous ballet performance, think of all those elegant Victorian travellers who did the same! And imagine yourself in a flowing dress or your most lovely pink tutu as you journey to the city of ballet!
