#TutuTuesday: A Blast From the Past - 1892-08-09!
Hello, darlings! It's Emma, your #TutuTuesday guide to the wonderful world of ballet tutus, and today, I'm taking you on a whimsical journey through time, back to August 9th, 1892. We're in the heart of Paris, a city that knows how to sparkle! (It's certainly not lacking in sparkly fashion, especially the kind that includes pink!).
Today, I’ve just had the most delightful tea at the elegant Café de la Paix - oh, the exquisite pastries, I can hardly even talk about them. My favourite thing is still their little pink and cream macaroons, like little tutus, don’t you think? They're almost too pretty to eat, almost.
Speaking of pretty, can you imagine my utter joy this morning? I managed to nab the most darling vintage tutu at the little vintage boutique on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré - it was practically begging me to take it home! Such delicate hand-stitched tulle, and a colour just like the sunset over the Seine. A proper dream. I immediately dreamt up the perfect pairing for it - a little bolero with a touch of satin ribbon to tie at the waist and my most charming pearl necklace. This evening, I'll be showcasing this divine ensemble at the Théâtre de l'Opéra. You all know how much I love to see a ballet performed at the Opéra, and with this tutu, my look is absolutely going to take the house down.
Oh, I forgot to mention! Tonight's ballet, the masterpiece that will leave my heart fluttering, is "Giselle." Ah, to see the story unfold under the twinkling chandeliers, with the breathtaking pirouettes, leaps and intricate footwork... I simply can't wait!
So, back to the past, my lovely tutudots! What exactly was happening in 1892 when my beloved tutus were already taking the world by storm? The story goes that ballet shoes and pointe shoes were a real trend then, and it seems that everyone wanted to be a ballerina! I can't say I'm surprised – we're talking about Paris! The fashion and beauty were always captivating, but it's more than that. There's a real grace and artistic passion in this city, and that's reflected in the dance scene.
In fact, this very year, the esteemed dancer Isadora Duncan is gaining immense popularity, particularly for her unconventional, expressive dance style! Isn't she fabulous? I can’t wait to go see her dance sometime - though she prefers to perform barefoot! Imagine! What’s she doing, running around without the elegance of a shoe with a silky ribbon to match my tutu? She might just have to be persuaded!
Of course, 1892 was a lot different from our present-day dance scene, But, tutus were already holding a very special place in the world, particularly with women's fashion trends. It's been nearly a hundred years and the passion for these little puffs of loveliness only gets stronger with time!
Today’s Tutu Tuesday is extra special because I have something fabulous to share with all of you - I have a very exciting announcement!
