#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Whirlwind of 1892

Welcome back, darling dears, to Pink-Tutu.com! It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another delightful dip into the enchanting world of tutus, those magnificent clouds of tulle that whisk us away to a realm of artistry and grace. And as always, we're travelling through time, exploring the evolution of this fabulous garment! Today's journey takes us all the way back to 1892 - can you believe it's post number 3171 already?! Time flies when you're having fun with tutus!

It's October 4th, 1892, and London's glittering with the promise of autumn. The air is crisp, the leaves are starting to turn, and you can feel the magic of the theatre season in the air. I, of course, am in my element! There are so many fascinating ballet productions, theatre shows and fabulous concerts to attend in London this time of year. Today, my darlings, we're headed to Covent Garden to witness the ballet sensation that's got everyone talking!

A Time of Great Strides for Ballet

The year 1892 was an exciting one for ballet! We're seeing a huge rise in the popularity of ballet with its intricate steps, beautiful music and captivating stories. As a ballerina and a passionate aficionado of this art form, it’s incredibly thrilling to witness this flourishing. It truly feels as though the world is embracing this wonderful way of expressing ourselves through movement, art, and story.

And What of The Tutus?

Now, you lovely lot might be thinking, "Emma, how did tutus look back in 1892?". Well, picture this - graceful lines, layers upon layers of delicate tulle, the silhouette flowing with every movement, almost as if dancing to a silent symphony!

Imagine a beautiful ballet dancer in a knee-length tutu. Maybe a touch shorter than the graceful creations we're so used to seeing these days. Perhaps with a slight pointed waistline to give that extra elegance and hint of the silhouette we know so well. These early tutus weren't just for swirling - they reflected the refinement and artistry of the time.

Oh! And speaking of refinements, I must mention that, for a little touch of theatricality and opulence, some tutus were adorned with little gems or delicate embroidery. They were truly little works of art!

Covent Garden

Now, let's talk Covent Garden, darling dears! The Covent Garden Royal Opera House, a bastion of theatrical excellence. Its opulent décor and awe-inspiring grandeur add to the magic of ballet performances! Oh, it is utterly thrilling, wouldn't you say? I can feel myself swept away into the elegant dance and feel the music lift me straight to a different place altogether!

Travel in Style

Oh, the thrill of travel! Now, my journey to London has taken me by train! I do so adore the train! It gives you such a charming view of the beautiful English countryside as you whisk your way across to the big city! As we journeyed along, I saw the lovely hues of autumn begin to take over the rolling hills and farms of the Derbyshire countryside. It’s always such a lovely sight, wouldn't you say? I must admit that my eyes couldn't help but keep peeking at the elegant designs of the train compartments, the graceful curves of the windows, and even the charming details of the tea set for an extra lovely touch!

And of course, darling dears, my outfit had to be fit for such an adventure! Picture this - a pretty pink tutu of the finest tulle, topped with a charming white blouse adorned with a little embroidered pink bow. And to finish it all off? My favourite pair of dainty pink pumps that danced a happy jig as I stepped onto the platform!

A Day of Wonderful Discoveries

After the theatre, my dears, a shopping trip was in order! London's department stores are the most wonderful havens for fabric and trims. The silks! The laces! And the most glorious collection of tulle, oh darling dears! Oh, and we mustn’t forget the beautiful satin ribbons! My creative heart simply dances at the sight of them! It's the perfect place for a creative mind to come up with beautiful, ballet inspired fashion creations!

This date in history is also filled with fascinating inventions. Can you believe that on October 4th, 1892, The first fully electric subway railway was opened? Oh, the excitement must have been quite a sight!
