Today, 18th April 1893, we find ourselves in the heart of Parisian elegance. Oh, how I love the energy here! Paris, the City of Lights, is the undisputed fashion capital of the world, and even though the Belle Époque is just peeking over the horizon, style is already buzzing with innovative energy!
While the 1890s are renowned for their lavish balls and glittering social events, today’s happenings are quite different, a touch more bohemian! This afternoon, the world’s eyes are on the Salon de l'Art Nouveau, where artists are presenting the newest works, exploring new styles and pushing boundaries. Imagine, dear readers! That's where we find ourselves this Tuesday! And believe me, my tulle and I are perfectly at home among this bold and adventurous bunch.
As we wander through the art nouveau salon, admiring intricate floral designs and dramatic silhouettes, I find myself feeling an echo of the passion for innovation that drives me to wear my tutu on any and every occasion! Don't you think there's a real connection between art nouveau's fluid, organic forms and the elegant movement of a ballerina in full flight? I think so, definitely!
My friends, a true history buff always remembers that ballet was in its prime in the late 1800s, but we're still years away from the true explosion of the modern dance scene! Right now, classical ballet reigns supreme. Yet, these daring artists at the Salon de l'Art Nouveau give me a real sense that a revolution in movement is brewing – an energy that whispers of tutus becoming even more central to our artistic world, more than just an occasional spectacle. It is an exhilarating time to be alive, or perhaps, to travel through time!
While I have been waltzing through the 1800s, you've probably been busy yourself! Did you wear a pink tutu today? You know I’m always looking for more inspiration, dear reader. Please do share your fashion escapades with me on the #TutuTuesday thread! Tell me, are you wearing your tutu for a stroll around the local park, a trip to the ballet or maybe a fancy afternoon tea? Let's share our tutu love, shall we?
This week's travel funds were raised thanks to a sensational performance at the Royal Opera House, a truly magical evening! The company's production of La Bayadère was simply exquisite, and watching those glorious ballerinas, perfectly draped in their graceful tulle tutus, left me feeling deeply inspired, ready for the week ahead. As for me, my performance – a rather energetic rendition of Swan Lake's "Black Swan" for the local arts club – was a bit of a whirlwind. I dare say I left the audience wanting more, a feeling I intend to repeat all week long!
To fund my next adventure through the realms of time, I have my sights set on the Théâtre du Châtelet! I have heard whisperings of an extravagant production of "Giselle," and I cannot wait to lose myself in the tragic and powerful beauty of this iconic story! Plus, after that, perhaps a quick stop in London for a little shopping. How could I possibly resist the calls of Liberty's fabrics? They call my name… like the sound of my pointe shoes on the dance floor.
Until next week, dear friends, remember: "It's never too late, or too early, to embrace the tutu!'" And let's face it, you can't ever go wrong with a dash of pink!
Yours in tulle, Emma.
