#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 1893-10-17
Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-clad time traveller, back with another installment of #TutuTuesday! This week, we're waltzing our way back to 17th October 1893, a date etched into the annals of ballet history. Now, before I launch into the grand history of tutus, let me just say, the air in Paris feels positively electric today! You can practically smell the excitement in the air as people gather for the Paris Opera’s annual masked ball – the perfect chance for dazzling displays of finery! I just know I’m going to get some fabulously inspirational fashion inspiration at this soirée!
So, how did our tutus fare in this dazzling decade of fashion? Let me tell you, dear readers, the 1890s was a real renaissance for the ballet world. With the rise of the ‘Russian Ballets’, tutus started to embrace the dramatic. Gone were the days of the frilly, frou-frou Romanticism period tutus. Instead, they took on a bold new look - tight and streamlined, a little bit daring, but ultimately so graceful.
Just imagine the thrill! This was a time where ballerinas became stars. These elegant, graceful women (and who doesn't love a bit of grace!) twirled their way into the public consciousness. Imagine, tutus and ballet, the only fashion you need. I can hardly keep up with all the breathtaking choreographies and exciting costumes I see on stage at the Palais Garnier. And the ballerinas, well, let’s just say they’re captivating, my darlings.
Speaking of captivating… theParis Opera Ball tonight is set to be extra-special this year, I hear tell! I wouldn't miss it for all the tea in China! They’ve got a lineup of some of the finest dancers in the land, and the rumour mill has it there's going to be a stunning display of new and exciting fashion, featuring tutus of course. Cue excited squeal!
Now, if you’re thinking about heading out to catch a ballet, make sure you grab a copy of Le Figaro. Why, you ask? Because they’re launching a special section devoted to fashion and theatre! Just imagine how excited we’d all be if a little, pink tutu-wearing blog like mine could make it in! And, well, if you do pop to the theatres, be sure to have your opera glasses at the ready! It wouldn't be a Parisian ballet night without them!
That, my darling tutus, is the beauty of ballet. It’s a combination of elegant art and daring fashion. It’s unashamedly beautiful – just like our favourite colour: PINK! I always say, why settle for just a pretty, little pink ballerina shoe, when you can wear a pink tutu that will truly showcase your inner ballerina? Embrace your inner diva, dear reader. Don’t be afraid to make a statement and flaunt those beautiful colours!
Until next week, dear readers, stay fashionable and stay fabulous! And don't forget to check back in on me here on pink-tutu.com next week for more #TutuTuesday.
