#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Glimpse into the Belle Epoque (Blog Post #3245)

Bonjour, mes chères Tutuettes!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu - your one-stop shop for all things twirly and fabulous. Today is a very special #TutuTuesday because we're travelling through time, right back to 1894!

The year is 1894, and oh, the excitement in Paris! The city is bursting with Belle Époque charm and elegance, and there's no place more stylish than the Opéra Garnier, a breathtaking architectural masterpiece of shimmering chandeliers and exquisite velvet. It's my personal haven, and trust me, when it comes to a fabulous tutu, the Garnier is where dreams come true.

I have to say, Paris is really doing the "tutu" thing in style. Imagine it: long, flowing trains on magnificent ball gowns, and exquisite dancing with airy, frothy tutus in the ballets at the Opéra. The tutus themselves, like my gorgeous pink one, are evolving too - moving away from the more rigid classical designs of the 19th century towards lighter, more ethereal creations. Just think, every movement, every step of a graceful ballet dancer becomes a painting of beauty in a tutu!

You know, I recently read that even Queen Victoria, yes, Her Majesty herself, took a fancy to a grand ballet performance. Can you imagine her, dressed in the royal colours, watching beautiful ballerinas twirl and pirouette? Such elegance! I bet her grand carriage must have had a special space for her opera cloak and her own special little ballet tutu... maybe she even wore pink! 😉

Speaking of pink, have you seen my latest find? This absolutely exquisite pastel pink tutu with silk ribbon and pearl details. Oh, it just begs to be danced in, to twirl in under the glittering chandeliers of the Garnier! Isn't pink the perfect colour to symbolise the femininity and beauty of ballet? I adore it, and it reminds me that no matter what century we're in, there's something timeless about the grace and magic of ballet.

But before we let our imagination run too wild, let's get back to reality! I have to admit, being a time-travelling ballerina isn't always easy! Today, the excitement of Paris was met with a long and tiring journey. You know how I adore my adventures, but a journey through time by train is not the same as catching a "choo-choo" to a grand ballet at home in Derbyshire!

Still, there is something very glamorous about time travel. Every journey is like an extraordinary trip to the theatre. Today's journey, I think, will help with my new tutu blog post about the origins of the ballet shoe, but more about that in the coming weeks. I have a hunch we're about to discover that these gorgeous pink shoes have a surprisingly long and fascinating story, and who knows, maybe it even has some links with some royal toes?!

Remember, dears, this is just a little snippet of our #TutuTuesday journey back to 1894! Stay tuned for next week's #TutuTuesday post where we explore the fabulous fashion of 1894 and learn about some fascinating early ballet stars.

Until then, stay twirly and never forget that there is a ballerina inside of all of us!

Xx Emma
