#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - June 26th 1894! (Post #3261)
Bonjour, my darling Tutu Twirlers!
It's Emma here, your trusty time-travelling ballerina from Derbyshire, England, back with another fabulous #TutuTuesday blog post! This week, my vintage train ticket took me all the way back to the glittering grandeur of Paris in 1894, specifically June 26th.
Now, before I get all giddy about this date, I've got to give a shoutout to our newest Tutu Twirler from St. Petersburg, Russia! Elena, darling, your email brought me so much joy! You absolutely must come visit Paris for a whirlwind ballet tour sometime soon, imagine the tutus! The fashion! We simply have to find the perfect cafe to indulge in some macarons, it's all very "C'est si bon", as the French would say!
Now, let's talk history. You're likely wondering, what was going on in the world of tutus on this particular June 26th?
Well, it's the 1890s and as the century marches on, tutus are undergoing a grand transformation. We are moving away from the heavy layers of romantic tutus and edging towards the lighter and more athletic tutus that we know and love today!
Imagine: silk, satin and lace flowing like rivers of dreams as graceful ballerinas flutter through the air. And don't forget, my dear Tutu Twirlers, those darling, little pointe shoes! Just imagining them twirling around the grand stage brings a twinkle to my eye!
What’s really special about June 26th 1894 is that the world is about to experience something amazing! The Paris Opera Ballet is set to debut a breathtaking new ballet – "La Esmeralda" by Cesare Pugni and Jules Perrot. It's a dramatic tale, I tell you, of betrayal, love, and the plight of a beautiful gypsy girl.
I can just picture the magnificent tutus! It would be sheer delight to see the costumes twirling about the stage, showcasing the Parisian fashion and sophistication. I can just imagine all the gorgeous tulle.
Now, some of you might be thinking, “Emma, tutus, yes! But Paris, a gypsy girl, hmm?” Well, my darling tutu devotees, we’re going to dive deeper into this tale another Tuesday, with my special “The Ballet of Love and Betrayal” #TutuTuesday post next week! But, as you'll find, there's a beautiful synergy between the story of La Esmeralda, and the world of dance and the graceful artistry of ballet that was evolving around her!
But hold on, Tutu Twirlers! Remember, tutus aren’t just for ballerinas, they’re for anyone who wants to embrace a little magic and elegance in their lives. You too can be a Tutu Twirler, a fashion enthusiast! Just add a touch of tulle, a smattering of pink, and voila! You've got yourself a glamorous day.
In the meantime, let’s get ready to twirl. Don’t forget to head over to our lovely little shop at www.pink-tutu.com! I've been shopping for the latest Parisian fashions, I've got some stunning fabrics for my next tutus - gorgeous velvet, soft silks and the most beautiful silk chiffons.
