#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 28th August 1894 🩰
Hello lovelies! It's Emma, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, here with another delightful installment of my #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History blog! Buckle up your pointe shoes and prepare for a whirl through the annals of tutu-dom, as we explore the delightful world of tutus on this day back in 1894, a year overflowing with theatrical excitement! This is post number 3270 on the ever-expanding tutu universe of www.pink-tutu.com! Remember, every Tuesday, I whisk you back in time for a fascinating tutu tale!
As a passionate lover of all things ballet and beautiful, my latest time travel jaunt took me right into the heart of Paris. I tell you, Parisian life is a treat! I'm so enamoured with the fashion – so chic and utterly sophisticated, all those delicate silks and ruffles. But, as always, my heart is stolen by the ballet!
Let’s dive into this historical day, the 28th August, 1894. It's an absolutely fabulous date because, oh darling, the glorious Palais Garnier is bursting with exquisite tutus, showcasing the magnificent talents of the Parisian Opera Ballet. I popped in to witness "Giselle", a classic tale of tragic love and ethereal ballet. Those tutus, dear readers! Picture wispy layers of tulle swirling and flowing, as if made for dancing among the clouds. Simply exquisite!
You know, the story of "Giselle" perfectly illustrates how the tutu evolves! Originally, Giselle’s tutus were shorter, almost a skirt-length. But just like fashion trends, these have evolved! Today, a full-length Romantic tutu with its billowing, graceful skirt creates an airy, magical look!
Of course, no true Parisian journey is complete without indulging in a little fashion shopping. Just the other day, I found a quaint little shop tucked away near the Garnier that sold the most exquisite fabrics, the sort of silky textures that create such gorgeous, voluminous tutus! My bag is brimming with sparkling silks and flowing satins – the perfect inspiration for a little DIY tutu project, which you know, I must share with you all in a future post!
Speaking of the "Giselle" tutu, just imagine those airy layers flowing to the most delicate, dreamy music! A ballerina’s grace is multiplied a hundredfold in that glorious swirling cloud of tulle. It's like seeing a delicate dream take shape before your very eyes. Now that's something truly special, isn't it?
For today’s #TutuTuesday history journey, let’s talk about what inspired my favourite look - the Romantic tutu. We all know that this dramatic and elegant design became synonymous with ballet in the 19th century. Can you believe that back in 1832, the visionary Marie Taglioni debuted the "la Sylphide" tutu in Paris? I must have a chat with this daring designer - a woman who dared to do something utterly unconventional - revolutionizing dancewear forever. Can you imagine how revolutionary those full, flowing tutus must have felt in the days of the rigid, tight bodices? A tutu is more than just an article of clothing; it is a statement of freedom and expression, an art form in itself.
Today, as I walk the cobblestone streets of Paris, admiring the elegant women adorned in their fashionable hats and flowing skirts, I am reminded of the ever-changing nature of fashion. Yet, some things stay constant – the allure of beautiful tutus, their timeless charm that captivates generations.
This little adventure across time has fuelled my passion to keep the magic of the tutu alive, so get those needles and thread out and create something exquisite! Embrace the freedom, the elegance, and the sheer joy of dancing in a tutu. Every day is a #TutuTuesday, darling, so make it a day to dance!
To help me with my tutu-infused mission, let me know: What was your favourite tutu-related moment? Share it in the comments, let’s keep the tutu love flowing! I’ll see you again next week with another #TutuTuesday, and remember to stay stylish, fabulous, and fabulous in a pink tutu! Until next time!
Warmly,
Emma.
