#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - October 30th, 1894 - Blog Post #3279!

Hello my darlings, and welcome back to another #TutuTuesday! This week, I'm taking a trip back to October 30th, 1894. Now, I've been travelling through time, a tad more often lately, which has given me a splendid idea! Who knows, I might make some more exciting finds on my jaunts through history... Perhaps another fashion faux pas I can warn you about (though I am certain, even a thousand years from now, no outfit will be as delightfully bonkers as a 19th century gentleman in a top hat and an unfortunate cravat...).

But I digress! Back to 1894.

The air in Paris crackled with excitement. It was a Thursday, if you can believe it - and you know what that meant. Yes, my loves, it was ballet night! I whisked my way through the cobbled streets, past vendors selling their wares, and into the Opera Garnier. The music wafted through the building like a sweet scent. Ah, such magic!

The ballet being performed was called "La Source." You may not be familiar with it now, but I do think it was a charming spectacle, even if it wasn't my cup of tea... the dancers did, of course, look exquisite with tutus - so that's a plus. However, these tutuses hadn't quite evolved into the graceful flounces of modern dancewear just yet! The ballerina's skirts, for instance, had just one layer - they weren't nearly as full as we enjoy today, oh my!

I always have a delightful time wandering through these cobbled Parisian streets - everything feels so deliciously dramatic! As I made my way to the theatre, I stopped by one of my favourite little boutique shops - it had the most heavenly lace, oh my - perfect for adorning one's tutu!

But now back to our ballerina beauties... "La Source" was an interesting creation, full of lovely mythological imagery - that's always delightful to see! I'm quite partial to the water nymphs myself - I do love a good sea-themed spectacle, even in a dance! I simply love the imagination of ballets. I could stare at those graceful figures all night! The entire show felt like a wonderful daydream, which made me all the more eager to twirl when I got home!

It is so hard to believe that the ballerinas wore something less than our lovely multi-layered tulle marvels of today... I'm so glad our time travelling brought these deliciously twirlable skirts to life. Don't you agree, dears?

Now I must confess, I couldn't help but get caught up in the shopping spirit while in Paris! There was an absolute cornucopia of glorious clothing! Why, you should see the magnificent silks they were crafting then - they would make such a gorgeous tutu lining - Oh the wonders of fabric shopping!

Let me see, where was I... ah yes! Paris! What a joy! There was simply a magic to the air... a hint of artistic brilliance.

Do you have a favourite ballet youโ€™ve seen this week, my dears?

Please tell me everything in the comments! Don't forget to check back in for my next Tutu Tuesday adventure - maybe I'll be off to a seaside ballet next week! Until then, stay twirly!

Yours in pinkest fashion,

Emma x
