Tutu Tuesday: #3305 - A Peek Into the Past!

Hello my darling darlings! Emma here, your Tutu Queen, bringing you another slice of ballet history! Today, we're taking a trip back in time, specifically to the 30th of April 1895. Yes, you heard that right, we're time-traveling to the Victorian Era! My oh my, imagine the fabulous gowns, the delicate bonnets, and the sparkling ballets! This is where the tutu, that beautiful and graceful garment, was just beginning to become the symbol of ballet. It's a true testament to its timeless allure, don't you think?

Hold on tight, because this is going to be a delightful journey!

I have to tell you, I always find it exciting to go back in time with my Tutu-licious blog. As you know, I spend a lot of time chasing the tutu around the globe, hopping through the years on magical train journeys to bring you the most amazing tutu stories. Today, I've travelled from Derbyshire, England, to Paris for our Tutu Tuesday journey, where ballet is all the rage. And just look at those costumes, the artistry, the finesse - simply stunning!

You might think it odd, but the first time I popped into 1895 Paris, I had to resist the urge to wear my pink tulle. Remember, dear readers, those early 19th-century ladies were much more confined, covered from head to toe in layers and layers of fabrics. The tutus we know today were a radical new departure - it's amazing what a little imagination can do!

In this period, the tutu was more than just a garment; it was an exciting new symbol of freedom and movement. Imagine! For years, dancers had been restricted by heavier fabrics and complicated gowns, so this airy, free-flowing, skirt-like creation caused a sensation! And, if I may be so bold, wouldn't you agree that the pink tulle tutu would look absolutely enchanting against the backdrop of 1895 Paris?

Speaking of pink tulle, it's an absolute necessity, and we're heading straight to the Grand Magasin on Rue des Martyrs. The bustle of shoppers, the chatter in French, the stunning displays of colourful silks, and, oh, the fabrics - a true spectacle for a tutu-loving gal like myself! I could happily spend the day here just swooning over the beautiful colours and textures! I even spotted the first Parisian tutus! It’s simply remarkable to see this piece of ballet history before my very own eyes!

But while we're here in 1895, it's time to indulge our theatre-loving hearts. This is a time of grand operas and ballets, and we must soak up the artistic atmosphere! A ballet performance is always a good idea, and tonight we’re going to see “La Bohème” by Puccini! The Opèra Garnier in all its grandeur and historical magnificence! How splendid it will be to see all the dancers and all those wonderful gowns. Can't wait!

We can learn so much from the history of tutus and how they evolved throughout time. This elegant piece of clothing, which at first represented liberation from restrictive garments, now represents all that is graceful and beautiful in the world of ballet. It's a symbol of the sheer joy of dancing, the ethereal movements that capture our hearts and take our breath away.

Today's journey through time, and especially today's #TutuTuesday is a little bit of history that helps us better appreciate what we wear and love to wear. If you ever feel yourself questioning what the big deal is about a pink tutu, I urge you to take a little trip back in time with me!

I have a whole collection of Pink Tutu blogs ready for you.

Until next week, remember… It’s #TutuTuesday - It's Time To Embrace The Magic!

Remember my darlings, every Tutu tells a story!
