#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 1895-06-11! 🩰💖
Hello my dearest Tutu Twirlers!
Welcome back to my little corner of the internet where we explore the wonderful world of the tutu! Today, as usual, it's #TutuTuesday, and this week we're going right back to the very heart of tutu history - 1895, the 11th of June to be precise! My time machine just whirred its way back from this captivating era, and oh, let me tell you, tutus are seriously fabulous right now. 💖
Paris, the City of Lights and the Tutus of Our Dreams! ✨
As you all know, my dear friends, Paris is the place to be when it comes to all things tutu-related. This week I found myself swirling through the grand boulevards, soaking up the city's intoxicating energy. From the dazzling shops brimming with silk and tulle, to the hallowed halls of the Opéra Garnier, it's all about exquisite dance and dazzling fashion here!
1895: A Time for Elegance
1895 is a magical moment in ballet history. Think swirling romanticism, captivating ballerinas, and of course, tutus. I mean, just look at these stunning examples! Picture billowing skirts made of white layers and layers of tulle, so delicate they float around the ballerinas as they gracefully glide across the stage. We're talking tutus that seem to embody pure, airy loveliness. Honestly, the elegance of these early tutus would melt even the coldest of hearts! 💖
Catching a Performance at the Opéra Garnier
On the 11th of June, 1895, I snuck myself into the most beautiful ballet I have ever witnessed. I was absolutely transported, dear friends. It was as though a hundred dancers spun around me in a swirling kaleidoscope of beauty. Imagine delicate arabesques, perfectly-executed leaps, and captivating gestures that painted stories into the very air itself!
Speaking of stories, a very special one took place right here at the Opéra Garnier that evening. We’re talking about "Le Roi Candaule", a masterpiece by the legendary French choreographer, Louis Mérante. Now, Mérante wasn’t afraid to break the mould with his ballets – he even dared to combine elements from both ballet and opera, giving his audience the best of both worlds. Oh, what a thrill to have seen such a brilliant production, with its iconic tutu-clad dancers gliding through such a story!
Oh, and the music! The score was by Jules Massenet, a true maestro of musical composition. This performance brought all the senses to life – the delicate flutter of the tutus, the harmonious symphony of strings, the sheer grace of every movement. I couldn't help but feel like a little girl again, captivated by the sheer wonder of it all.
Finding Inspiration in the Streets
Of course, it's not all about the ballet here. Paris itself is a whirlwind of sartorial inspiration. Today, you can find everything from the grandest gowns to the chicest street wear. I myself am completely smitten with the style of Parisian women - effortless yet chic. That iconic Parisian elegance just oozes from every street corner, and let me tell you, I definitely incorporated that into my own fashion this week! My current ensemble? A perfectly fitted pink jacket with little puff sleeves, and a delicate, frothy pink tulle skirt, of course! Why wear anything less than a fairytale-esque getup while wandering through the City of Lights, right?
Pink, Pink, Pink, oh, the Pink!
And speaking of pink, have I mentioned how much I love this glorious colour? I think the entire world needs a dose of pink. We must embrace our inner ballerinas and twirl towards a future full of joy and whimsy. You can totally see the pink vibes reflected in 1895 Paris, with ladies donning the prettiest pink frocks, and a dusting of pink on nearly every dress, hat and shoe! There's no question – this city knows how to embrace pink!
Traveling Back in Style, by Train
Now, as I leave Paris for Derbyshire, I couldn't resist a final glimpse of the glorious pink sky above the city. This moment reminded me – just like you, my dear readers – I too feel the most wonderful things in life are those things that inspire, move, and delight us. And there's nothing more enchanting than the art of ballet and its dazzling tutus!
But before I sign off, my little tutu twirlers, let’s talk fashion! Here are some fabulous ideas for your #TutuTuesday wardrobe. Get ready for some gorgeous creations inspired by the tutus of 1895, with that fabulous pink twist I love!
