#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back in Time - July 23rd, 1895! 🩰
Hello darlings!
It's your favourite pink-tutu-wearing time traveller, Emma, back for another #TutuTuesday! This week we're taking a trip back in time to July 23rd, 1895. Buckle up your pointe shoes, ladies, because we're going on a historical adventure!
Paris, my dearest!
This week I found myself in the heart of Paris, the City of Lights! The air is alive with the sound of music and the smell of fresh croissants, the cobblestone streets are buzzing with the elegance of ladies in their latest gowns, and the most delicious aroma of floral perfumes tickles my nose! It's pure delight.
But of course, my real love, my true obsession, is the ballet! And today is an especially exciting day because it marks the opening night of 'La Bohème' by Giacomo Puccini at the Théâtre du Châtelet! You might recognise the name - this opera was a huge hit and, you won't believe it, is still being performed today! Now that's what I call enduring elegance!
The world of ballet in 1895:
Speaking of elegance, let's talk tutus! While these ethereal skirts are becoming more and more popular on stages around the world, here in 1895 they still haven't fully embraced the pink craze that will sweep the ballet world in years to come. Imagine that, a world without a sea of blushing ballet tutus! What a travesty! But I have a feeling my pink-tutu-powered time-traveling is on the way to fixing that. wink
The tutus of this era were still pretty simple and graceful, but we're seeing more layers and volume starting to creep in. A lovely step in the right direction if you ask me.
Think flowing white, dreamy chiffon, and a bit of blush pink peeking through here and there. That's the kind of dreamy beauty we're working with, ladies! And what’s more, they’re still crafted with so much care and artistry! Each layer, each stitch is like a tiny whisper of elegance and movement.
Now, you’re wondering how I even afford these trips. The truth is, I make a living with my trusty old pink tutu! I can hop between time periods by giving performances on my favourite classical stages around the world. Sometimes I'm on stage, dancing and swirling like a whirlwind of pink, other times I'm behind the curtain, advising dancers on costume choices or choreographic details. There's nothing like a little fashion history to bring some magic to the performance.
My little pink obsession:
And talking about magic... cue the twinkling music I found a charming little boutique in Paris filled with the most beautiful pink silks and chiffons. I had to pick up a spool of pink lace and a gorgeous rose-coloured feather boa - perfect for that little touch of "something special".
Don't forget, dear readers, a touch of pink can elevate any outfit! My mission, my life's work, you could even say, is to get everyone dancing in pink! A little pink goes a long way, my dears! It adds a splash of sweetness and romance to everything you wear! Just look at this week's picture of me in the new Parisian silk gown I picked up! Absolutely delightful.
Oh, and don't forget to check out the post from this past #TutuTuesday: Number 3316: "A Waltz Through the Victorian Era" - You can find it on my blog **www.pink-tutu.com . P.S. Did you know I have a collection of pink tutus dating back to the late 1800s?! cough That's how I'm able to travel back in time and see what makes the best tutus tick, by the way... wink, wink It's a little secret!
