#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 9th June 1896!

Hello my darlings!

Welcome back to my little corner of the internet where all things pink and fluffy reign supreme. Today's #TutuTuesday is taking us on a time-travelling journey, and let me tell you, it's a whopper of a trip! Buckle up your ballet slippers, darling, and grab a cup of Earl Grey, because we're stepping back into 1896.

This week's date - the 9th of June - was a particularly exciting day in ballet history, wouldn't you say? It was the day La Fille Mal Gardée graced the stage at the London Coliseum with its lovely romantic plot and playful choreography. Oh, how I wish I could've been there!

You see, 1896 was the peak of romantic ballet. Imagine fluttering chiffon, shimmering silk, and tulle like a cloud - all dancing in perfect harmony! This era, known as the "Golden Age of Ballet", was practically designed for tutus, wouldn't you say? We're talking exquisite hand-sewn layers, with the softest, most delicate embroidery you could ever imagine. Now that's a tutu I wouldn't mind twirling in!

And that brings me to our star of the show - the tutu. It was actually born right here in Paris in 1830, my darlings! It started with the revolutionary La Sylphide, and that sparked the most beautiful fashion revolution - and everyone jumped on board! Now, 1896 is like a peak in this evolution - those elaborate skirts, those incredible layers... sigh!

Can we talk about colour for a second? Well, 1896 wasn't just about fluffy white tutus! There was so much more going on. Imagine dancing on stage with a beautiful vibrant red, perhaps a delicate rose pink - even some fabulous hues of blue! Just picturing these colourful delights makes me want to jump right into the footlights.

This is why I adore travelling back in time through #TutuTuesday! To get lost in these old, romantic dances with all their elaborate tutus, and be a part of something so breathtaking and exciting.

Oh, and you know what else was on the scene in 1896? You guessed it - street dancing! In those days, you could see these gorgeous ladies on the streets in their ball gowns - sometimes they would even wear something a bit tutu-esque! These fashion forward ladies are definitely my inspiration. Imagine their audacity - how utterly magnificent!

To celebrate this magical moment in tutu history, I have something rather special for you today. I found a fabulous antique tutu from 1896 tucked away in an old costume shop on a recent visit to Derbyshire. Its delicate tulle and perfectly crafted layers make my heart skip a beat. You'll have to check out the photo in this blog post, my dears! It’s the most amazing pink you have ever seen.

Of course, a little bit of pink wouldn't go amiss in our celebration of the grand romantic era. And we have just the thing - a new pink tutu design! Pink Perfection is inspired by those amazing tutus and costumes worn by those delightful dancers on the streets of London and Paris. Just the name makes me blush, doesn't it? *It will be available for purchase right here on the Pink Tutu website next week.

Speaking of our lovely Pink Tutu website, darling, have you been seeing my "Pink Tutu Challenge"? You've seen me wearing tutus all over the globe! Now, I want you all to do the same! Wear a pink tutu! The streets, a theatre show, your living room... even at the shops! You know it will bring smiles to every face!

And remember, darling, always stay stylish and embrace your inner ballerina, no matter where you are or what you're doing. It’s all about confidence and loving yourself, right?

That's all from your ever-so-pink ballerina,

Emma
