Bonjour mes amies! It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another jaunt through #TutuTuesday, your weekly dose of all things frilly and fabulous! This week, I'm whisking us back in time, back to the oh-so-romantic era of 1898! Oh, it's like stepping onto the set of a Belle Époque ballet!
Can you imagine waltzing in your own whimsical tulle creation with gaslight twinkling around you? The excitement! The elegance! This time period is all about romance, from the flouncy fashion to the fluttering hearts!
It's rather ironic actually, I'm stood on the bustling Champs-Élysées here in Paris, surrounded by grand architecture and horse-drawn carriages, watching elegant Parisian women swanning about in their fabulous outfits - so reminiscent of ballet itself! It's a real fairytale for a tutu-loving gal like me, believe you me!
*Oh, and talking about elegant women, today marks a momentous occasion in the world of dance, darlings! Today, June 14th 1898, sees the premiere of a legendary ballet, *La Source, at the legendary Paris Opera! Just imagine - the shimmering lights of the opera house, the air thick with anticipation! I'd do anything to witness such a show - perhaps we could find an ingenious way to bring the 19th century to the 21st, eh?
As I wander through the avenues of this vibrant city, my heart simply leaps with delight as I observe the glorious gowns - they are works of art! The corseted waists, the voluminous skirts, all so feminine and delicate! It's easy to see where the inspiration for ballet costume design began. In fact, today, it’s an absolute joy to see those iconic designs carried on in modern ballets - just take a look at the Nutcracker, darling, a prime example of that graceful heritage!
So, you know how I love a good dress-up? This period simply screamed for a custom tutu to match the opulent flair of the age! My Parisian seamstress worked wonders, and let me tell you, I felt like I was in a grand opera house, myself! It's all about graceful flounces, silky ribbons, and shimmering lace! And let’s not forget a touch of playful pink! Because, let’s be honest, no ballet outfit is complete without it!
My tutu is such a vision, darlings. It’s like the essence of that captivating 19th-century charm in a swirling cloud of tulle. Why not try creating your own inspired tutu? Let your inner ballerina shine! Embrace those fluttering fabrics and dance the night away. Don't forget your feathered boas and pearl necklaces for the full Parisian chic experience! Remember, all you need is imagination and some pink ribbon and voila - you’ve got your own glamorous ballet!
And if you haven’t already, you absolutely must add La Source to your ballet bucket list. Believe me, it’s like travelling through time itself, stepping into that romantic, enchanting world! I've heard tell of breathtaking costumes and exquisite choreography. The Parisian charm will simply make you want to dance on a cloud!
Speaking of cloud nine, it wouldn’t be TutuTuesday without mentioning the magnificent train travel. My oh my! The Orient Express whisked me away to the City of Lights in a flurry of excitement! What a splendid and decadent way to travel - so much more glamour than our modern transport, you know! But the essence of ballet stays the same - a perfect example of graceful, effortless movement!
I’ll be off back to the future now, but do be sure to visit me again next Tuesday for a brand new whirl through ballet history!
Until then, stay fabulous, stay twirly, and always, always wear pink.
Love,
Emma
