#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time, 27th December 1898! (Blog Post #3496)

Hello, darlings! Emma here, your very own time-travelling, tutu-wearing, pink-obsessed fashionista!

It’s #TutuTuesday, and we’re whisking ourselves back to December 27th, 1898, for a peek into the world of tutus. Oh, it’s a journey back in time, not by flying machine (alas!), but by a delightful steam train, all swishing petticoats and twinkling fairy lights!

Paris, My Darling!

Our journey takes us to Paris, the heart of the fashion world, and what’s more, a centre for beautiful ballet. It’s the perfect place to find those delicate tulle layers that dance and twirl with such delight! Imagine the excitement – the Théâtre de l'Opéra Garnier, with its plush velvet seats and gold-leaf embellishments! Oh, to be amongst the hushed excitement of an audience captivated by the grace of Isadora Duncan, the free spirit whose movements inspired a generation. I daresay, even the air hums with the notes of Tchaikovsky! And the tutus, my dears? The tutus! Imagine soft pastel hues, flowing silk, and that hint of romanticism that we can never resist, especially in a pink shade!

A Century Ago – A Century of Twirls!

Today, 27th December 1898, ballet isn't what it is now. But there is something so wonderful about those early days, those moments of pure artistry and innovation. You know, dear readers, the concept of tutus has always been more than a simple garment, it’s an expression, an emotion, and oh, the symbolism! Back then, tutus were becoming shorter, allowing more freedom of movement – quite exciting, wasn’t it?

And the colour palette? Think blush pinks, gentle lilacs, and a delicate ivory. It's a testament to the power of femininity – elegant, understated, and brimming with potential!

More Than Just a Ballet Lesson

My journey, however, extends beyond the world of dance, my dear readers. Imagine being on Rue de Rivoli, amidst the hustle and bustle, the smells of pastries and freshly brewed coffee! It's a world of lace and frills, where hats are essential, and the bustle of petticoats makes a graceful, rustling sound! I love the shopping opportunities in Paris, especially with a tutu on my little feet!

Inspiration is Everywhere

For me, you know, it’s never just about ballet. It’s about finding those delightful details, the unexpected pops of pink, and of course, always with a little bit of sparkle. Maybe it’s the blush of a flower, or a shimmer of sequins on a fashionable gown, but those sparks of joy can be found anywhere – you just need to open your eyes!

And on this journey through time, I have a special surprise!

Do you know the charming story of “Cinderella”?? Well, today we are talking about another amazing woman who was part of this tale in ballet - a tale as enchanting as a tutu itself, even for those of us who do love shoes! Melba, a woman ahead of her time, who loved ballet and wore gorgeous pink tulle gowns that resembled tutus - and inspired her own special tutu-inspired dessert! What could be more delightful? That, my dear readers, is a fashion journey through time well worth sharing.

So here’s my suggestion, darlings: grab a glass of lemonade, put on your favourite pink tutu, and let's take a magical ride together, across the centuries!

Yours always in tutu and pink,

Emma xx
