#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Dance Back to 1899-04-04! 🩰

Hello darlings, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com! It's me, Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, time-travelling ballerina, and I'm so thrilled to be back with you for another exciting #TutuTuesday!

Today's date, April 4th 1899, is just bursting with history! Honestly, it's hard to pick a favourite - there's so much going on! But, before we get swept away by the stories, let's just revel in the magic of this very special date - it’s my 3510th #TutuTuesday post! That's a whole lot of ballet history and tutus, darlings, and I couldn't be more thrilled to share this journey with all of you!

And speaking of journeys, darling, I've just stepped off a rather lovely train journey from Paris, France - and let me tell you, it's no secret why it’s called the City of Lights! Every street is a fashion show, and you’ll be forgiven for feeling a little dizzy with the sheer number of glorious gowns, bonnets, and bows everywhere you turn! I just knew this trip would provide the perfect inspiration for a vintage-inspired outfit. We’re talking elegant, billowing sleeves, beautiful silk skirts and just the slightest hint of pink, darling, just the slightest! It wouldn't be a real Emma trip without a little pink tutu, now would it? I've paired it with a sweet white top and my favourite little flower hair clip – the perfect ensemble for strolling along the Parisian avenues. And if you fancy, I could always whip up a quick tutorial for you! Do you love pink tutus, lovelies? You just know that I do!

Speaking of amazing shows and dresses, my travels always get me thinking about the fascinating history of the tutu. It's a fascinating dance, literally! Imagine - the story of one of ballet’s most iconic garments starts way back when ballerinas wore long, cumbersome gowns and floor-length skirts. Imagine all that material while pirouetting! Imagine all that time being spent carefully picking up those heavy layers just so your feet could land at just the right time! It’s no wonder ballerinas yearned for a change!

It was back in the 19th century, darling, where the story truly began! Marie Taglioni, a dazzling ballet legend, was the first to bring the tutu, well, to life. She wore her short tutus to break free from the limitations of those long, heavier skirts and to truly embrace the movement of the ballet. Think flowing fabrics, delicate layers and those dreamy, billowing silhouettes!

Now, my trip has brought me face-to-face with the impact that fashion designer, Charles Worth, had on the tutu in 1899. Yes, darling, that is a significant part of what brings me to the year 1899 - and what is happening in this time period! Mr. Worth’s beautiful designs were more practical than previous fashions - and what is more feminine and practical than a lovely, stylish, and wearable tutu?! Just picture this - graceful, layered skirts allowing a dancer to move effortlessly across the stage with just a whisper of fabric and elegant, delicate movements. *That's why, *1899 is such a pivotal year for ballet's fashion revolution! **

There's something truly inspiring about how the world of ballet changed, darlings! You know, you see, how I travel through time looking at tutus! They are just so captivating! You feel me? And speaking of fashion - darling, if there is any chance that my time travelling adventure has left me feeling slightly overwhelmed, a day of shopping is the perfect antidote. There is nothing more relaxing than getting lost in a world of fabulous fabrics and beautiful embellishments! The feeling of a delicate silk tulle cascading around your legs is *simply irresistible – how could I resist indulging? And yes, of course, the pink tutus have been getting all of the attention! This time, they are coming from London! There are *stores and boutiques filled to the brim with the most spectacular vintage tutus, just waiting to take centre stage on the dance floor or a walk on a Parisian avenue. This is what really gets me inspired!

The romanticism and elegance of these delicate tutus from this historical fashion era, well darling, I’m so captivated by this style that I simply couldn't resist a little shopping spree! * I can't wait to share some *tutorials on styling them for modern dancers. Oh yes, I've already got some incredible vintage-inspired pieces to try out, darling. What better way to capture the magic of a ballet tutu than to find one that feels like a work of art? What do you think, darlings?

And while I'm on the topic of tutus, it would be a travesty to forget what's going on in the theatre world, of course! Darling, you simply have to see “The Great Divide" - that's the hottest new ballet piece by the one and only Mr. Charles D. Coburn, the acclaimed theatre actor! * I *adore him, and this ballet just puts him on another level of greatness. It’s full of dynamic choreography and enchanting music – *imagine a performance where *the most elegant tutu movements are used in such a dramatic fashion. This ballet piece is all the rage in London! You know I've just got to see it and then share all of my observations with you!

However, darling, don't be afraid to experiment with styles and techniques! The history of ballet tutus is a wonderful story that has just one simple, powerful purpose: to give each ballerina a chance to make their *unique voice heard. * Each generation brings its own interpretation to this delicate art - and it's this unique story which has so much magic. Oh, there's something so thrilling about getting lost in this history and imagining all of those amazing moments that forged our connection to this extraordinary ballet art.

Right, darling, let’s make this Tuesday a little more tutu-licious! What are you doing for your #TutuTuesday? Do you want to create a *pink tutu* outfit like mine?* If so, don’t be afraid to reach out - it would be a real pleasure! I love all of my #pinktutulovers! I’ve got to go now - another time-travelling trip is calling. But I’ll be back next Tuesday. Until then, keep shining, keep dancing, and always, always, wear your tutus!

Love,

Emma. 🩰❤️
