#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time - 1899, A Tutu Take on Victorian Elegance! 🩰✨
Hello, darlings! It’s Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com. This week, on #TutuTuesday, we’re hopping into our trusty time machine and waltzing back to 1899 - the very cusp of a new century! Now, for you history buffs, 1899 was a big year – the Boer War was brewing in South Africa, the iconic ‘Pickwick Papers’ by Charles Dickens was published (who needs a boring old book club when you can dance?), and my personal highlight: the evolution of the tutu was in full swing!
It’s always fascinating to see how fashions shift over time, isn’t it? Today, tutus are synonymous with graceful pirouettes, airy leaps, and all things ballet. But in 1899, the story is a tad different.
Imagine, darling, a world where the tutus are longer, a bit like a lovely, flowing skirt, and the fabric… well, let’s just say ‘fluffy’ wouldn’t do it justice! Picture layers and layers of tulle, often in romantic shades like soft pinks and sky blues, shimmering in the lamplight of grand theatres.
Ah, the theatre – our true heartthrob in this era! Ballet was absolutely blossoming, and in 1899, I happened to catch a breathtaking performance of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, at London’s prestigious Royal Opera House. Talk about a grand evening – all velvet, satin, and elegant chandeliers, just perfect for an afternoon of graceful ballets and whispered admiration!
And what about fashion? Let’s face it, dear readers, the ladies of this era were a symphony of exquisite elegance. A well-dressed lady might be wearing a bodice with intricate details, maybe some lace for good measure, paired with a flowing skirt that skimmed the ground. But remember, this is 1899! Forget those teeny, tiny fashion trends, ladies! Everything was larger, bolder, and gloriously extravagant!
And, of course, the most essential part of any fashionable ensemble? A perfectly pink tutu. This is why I’ve already slipped into a wonderfully fluffy pink creation from my time-travelling wardrobe, inspired by the trends of 1899. Imagine delicate layers of tulle in the softest shades of pink, shimmering under the gaslights, a dream for any fashionable woman!
Let me tell you, travelling back to 1899 was such a delightful experience. I must confess, though, this Victorian fashion is a bit too much for my busy schedule – I am constantly hopping between periods! Can you imagine spending a full hour getting ready? Don’t worry, dears, the time machine has its own wardrobe with outfits for each historical period! A girl has to stay true to her #TutuTuesday commitment, you see.
Speaking of which, don't forget to join me next Tuesday, my loves! We're embarking on a journey to another thrilling moment in tutu history. Until then, go out there, embrace your inner ballerina, and spread the magic of the tutu, darling. After all, you'll never go wrong with a touch of pink!
