#TutuTuesday: A Whirlwind Through Time - 27th June 1899
Hello, darling dears! It's Emma, your ever-so-pink-tutu-clad time-travelling fashionista, bringing you another fabulous instalment of #TutuTuesday - this week whisking us back to a delightful time: 27th June 1899. Grab your tea and a biscuit, darlings, we're off to the ballet! π©°
As you may know, my dear bloggy companions, my heart belongs to the world of ballet. I live for those moments where the music swells, the lights dim, and those exquisite dancers take flight across the stage, twirling in their shimmering tutus. And the tutu, my dears, is truly the star of the show! β¨
Now, as you well know, a girl with a passion for tutus simply must travel through time to see their evolution. After all, a good story always starts with its beginning. So, today, we're journeying back to 1899. Picture a bustling London theatre, the air electric with anticipation for a night of balletic brilliance. The stage is set, the orchestra tuned, and the audience awaits...the first glimpse of those exquisite tutus!
Back in this year, my dears, the tutu wasn't quite the statement piece we know and adore today. It was simpler, perhaps even a little more conservative. A ballerina's costume often consisted of a corset and a fitted skirt, a far cry from the full-bodied, airy wonders we see on stage today. But it was elegant and captivating, showcasing the dancers' grace and athleticism. Think of it like a chrysalis waiting to burst into a butterfly.
Imagine yourself, dearest reader, at Covent Garden in London, the home of balletic dreams! Tonight, we'll find the most admired dancers of the day, wearing exquisite costumes in their signature ballet β Swan Lake! A timeless masterpiece. Oh, don't worry - itβs far from dull! I imagine it was a true ballet sensation!
There's no record, alas, of the tutu styles for the London performance of Swan Lake. But think about it - this would be just the kind of performance you could go and see! And my darling friends, we can't let this be just about tutus. Imagine what youβd wear! Picture yourselves gracing a theatre in your very finest clothes: silks, hats, feathers! You'd want to look utterly magnificent, my darlings!
So, how to transport ourselves to London back then? How can we actually be a part of it all? My lovely readers, the only sensible way to do so is via the railway. A magical journey from the comfort of your lovely Victorian abode! The gentle sway of the carriage and the delightful views β an utterly charming way to transport yourself!
And what should you wear to this elegant theatrical event? A frock that is modest but stylish, and of course, don't forget the essential accessories, a feather boa, a pair of opera glasses, and for a touch of daring...why not consider a touch of a pink silk scarf tucked in around your throat? π You'll be the absolute belle of the ball, and trust me, a bit of pink always makes for a charming, whimsical addition to any ensemble.
After the grand spectacle, why not take in the Parisian ballet scene? As a true connoisseur of ballet, I must confess Paris is the undisputed leader! It is simply an utter explosion of creativity in the world of fashion! Oh, my lovely darlings, we'll need another week's worth of posts, my dear friends! The most fabulous shopping adventures are in store, with exquisite couture shops!
Until then, let us continue to embrace the joy and the beauty of the tutu. And remember, dear readers, it's never too early or too late to bring a touch of whimsicality to the world with a little bit of pink! π
