#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 26th June 1900! 🩰✨
Hello, darlings! It’s Emma, your time-travelling tutu enthusiast, and welcome back to #TutuTuesday! This week, I'm waltzing back to a day that’s positively buzzing with exciting happenings in the ballet world – June 26th, 1900! Now, grab your pinkest teacup and join me for a little trip down memory lane...
Before we even peek at what happened in the dance world on this particular date, I’ve gotta tell you – travel is tricky! Honestly, time-hopping in my fabulous pink tutu gets me some curious glances, even in 1900. But I've figured out that dancing is the best way to finance my adventures, you know, the ones that fill this here blog. So, I flit about giving performances in different eras – imagine, me in a romantic tutu in the 1800s, a sparkly modern tutu in the 20th century! Honestly, the outfits are incredible. The world is a stage, you could say!
Anyway, this week, I landed myself in a charming French café near the Opéra Garnier in Paris – absolutely fabulous, darling. The smells are delicious, the air buzzes with a gossipy chatter, and the Parisians are so fashionable, even the men! Parisian fashion has always been top notch! This year, it’s all about a nipped waist and billowing skirts with frills and flowers. Oh, and long gloves, oh my! (You bet I’m taking a note of this one, might incorporate some into my next tutu creation).
Now, what’s happening in the world of ballet this fine Tuesday? Well, it’s the high season, so, I knew to be in Paris! This season, it’s a joy, an explosion of vibrant costumes and intricate choreography. Oh, my darling! There’s such passion, so much feeling. My very favourite company, the Ballet Russes, is playing here at the Garnier! If I’m honest, they are taking my breath away – the costumes are exquisite! So, you see, darling, even a hundred years ago, ballet was extra and spectacular, it was like nothing else. It just proves to me that tutus are forever fashionable.
Speaking of tutus, on this particular day in 1900, a new dancer, a young, bright-eyed lady named Anna Pavlova, was on the cusp of something amazing, and believe you me, the ballet world was watching! This dancer had incredible grace and light movement – such an expressive dancer! She'd just started with the Ballet Russes, you see, but by the time you read this post, her name will be whispered on the streets of London, New York, and every grand opera house. It’s truly exciting, like I can sense change coming. I bet Anna’s tutus are a dream – all fluffy and romantic. A little bit of insider info, they do say she does her own costume designing sometimes. Imagine, tutus with a sprinkle of magic in them, just a bit more intricate than the norm. (Take note, Emma, perhaps you should give a go at creating tutus in her style – fluffy, airy, just right for a ballet dream.)
So, there you have it! That's a peek at a Tuesday back in 1900, filled with fashion, ballet, and a touch of history! Now, my loves, tell me – what are your favourite bits about this era? Do you prefer the graceful tutu style of the late 1800s? Do you think tutus should be worn every day? Don’t forget to pop by my website, www.pink-tutu.com!
Remember, darling, there’s nothing a tutu can't make more spectacular – don’t forget, the tutu is your best accessory!
Stay fabulous,
Emma x
PS - Did you know, today is International Asteroid Day?! 🌠✨ Don’t worry, I’ve packed my tutus into a pretty pink protective box because even with the most beautiful ballerina in the world, a cosmic collision is nothing to mess with. Stay tuned, because next week, I will be investigating how ballet got caught up with asteroids, planets, and space!
