#TutuTuesday: A Blast from the Past - 10th July 1900! 🩰💖

Hello, darlings!

It’s your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma, here, bringing you another enchanting #TutuTuesday journey through the whimsical world of ballet history. Today, we're taking a train ride back to 10th July 1900, a time of corsets, gaslight, and the undeniable allure of a well-executed pirouette.

I must admit, getting dressed for this historical adventure was a bit of a challenge. No sequins or stretchy fabrics in those days! I did my best to find an ensemble that was both historically accurate and, dare I say, a little bit pink, because a dash of colour is always essential for a true ballerina, wouldn't you agree?

Now, picture it. Paris, 1900. The City of Lights! You can almost feel the cobblestones beneath your dancing slippers, can't you? The air vibrates with excitement and the tantalizing promise of a new era. This was a time when the ballets of Tchaikovsky and the dreamy landscapes of Wagner were gracing the stages of grand Parisian theatres, enthralling audiences with their vibrant narratives and technical artistry.

Let's Talk Tutus!

In 1900, the tutu was already a firm favourite on the ballet stage, evolving from its more voluminous, frilly predecessors. It had become a streamlined masterpiece, revealing the dancer's fluid movements with effortless elegance. Imagine graceful, swirling layers of tulle, hinting at the sheer athleticism and artistry underneath! The iconic pink tutu was still a few years away, but oh, wouldn't it have been delightful to see these early tutus in shades of delicate rose and blush? Just picturing it sets my heart aflutter. 💖

What was happening on this date?

On the 10th of July, 1900, a certain little known musical "La Belle Helene" was opening in Paris. I haven't quite managed to see a performance yet, but I have heard whispers that it features a scene of grand dance - the "bacchanale," apparently a chaotic and delightfully risqué affair. Sounds thrilling! My fellow history buffs, I must get my hands on a copy of the program, wouldn’t you agree?

A little peek at my travels…

As I've mentioned before, I rely on the gracious patronage of audiences at my performances to fund my extraordinary journeys through time. Lately, I've been hopping between London, where I just finished performing in "Swan Lake" (such a graceful masterpiece!) and Vienna, where I treated myself to a beautiful velvet gown - simply irresistible.

But it’s time to head back to Derbyshire for the time being. You know how it is, darling, the constant touring can be tiring even for a ballet-loving adventurer! I will have more delightful travel tales for you soon - hopefully involving a little pink tulle along the way.

Until then, remember, it’s never too early (or too late) to embrace the joy of a well-chosen tutu! Let the world be your stage, and remember, your tutu doesn't have to be pink. Though it truly looks fabulous when it is. 😊

Emma
