Tutu Tuesday: A Pink Tutu's Parisian Promenade! (Post #3586)
Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time-traveller, Emma, back with another #TutuTuesday! This week, we're jetting off (or rather, steaming across in a magnificent carriage!) to Paris, 18th of September, 1900!
Oh, my dears, this is simply the most exciting time to be a tutu enthusiast! The City of Lights is positively glittering with the magic of the World's Fair - l'Exposition Universelle! It's an absolute whirlwind of wonders, and let me tell you, tutus are having their moment!
(And by "having their moment," I mean we're literally wearing the heck out of them! My luggage is positively bursting with tulle!)
You see, dear readers, while the ballet has been swirling its magic since, oh, I don't know, ever, this particular year feels particularly special. We're at the cusp of something new, something revolutionary! The fashion world is awash with flowing lines, billowing silks, and oh, those splendid colour combinations! Think vibrant pinks, deep blues, shimmering golds, all vying for a spot on the fashion scene.
It's simply divine, my dears, simply divine!
Now, for all you history buffs (or tutu-loving fashionistas like myself), I'll tell you the biggest* secret: This whole Parisian *frenzy for flowing, ethereal looks, it's all thanks to a certain French lady... that lady with the legendary name, **Isadora Duncan!
Isn't she the absolute inspiration?! Her dance was all about freedom and movement. She embraced loose, flowing garments that were a stark contrast to the corseted, restrictive gowns of the day. Can you believe, back in the 19th century, a lady dared to wear such things! Why, it would have made Victorian society have a collective fainting spell!
(But isn't it just glorious? She reminds us all to wear what makes us feel fabulous!)
Of course, with such a revolutionary movement brewing, naturally there are whispers of resistance from some old-school folks who long for the days of stiff, heavy, hideous gowns. I mean, darling, who wants to be constricted by a 50 pound gown when you can swirl, twirl, and float through life in a featherlight tulle masterpiece?!
I mean, I get it, change is hard. But you can't argue with how amazing a pink tutu feels, right?
Back to Paris, my darlings! Just imagine the splendor of the Palais du Chaillot. The entire city seems to be decked out in its most glamorous attire! My, oh, my, how my heart aches for more tulle! The World's Fair is all about progress and innovation. New ideas are blooming like flowers in spring!
As for today, 18th September, 1900... why, this very date holds another wonderful treasure for the dance lover! You see, at the fair, today marks the opening of a truly remarkable attraction – the "Exposition of Athletic Games."
Isn't it marvelous! The exhibit, showcasing a dizzying array of sporting activities - fencing, archery, gymnastics, oh my! – but for us it holds a real treat, dear reader. Tucked away amongst all this athletic grandeur, lies the exhibition of "Artistic Gymnastics." And I hear it's all the rage in Paris! Can you imagine, an entire exhibit dedicated to dancing bodies! How wonderful!
Imagine, ladies and gentlemen, all that dancing and tutus! I may have just booked myself a ticket! Who knows, maybe there’s an even greater future for tutus hidden within this fabulous event! Maybe it’s even the *beginning of a tutu craze! Imagine: tutu shops opening on every street corner, and tutu wearing ladies strutting down the Boulevard Haussmann! Oh, wouldn't that be a sight to behold?
Now, darling, let’s make our way through this fascinating Fair, shall we? With its dazzling architecture, thrilling technological wonders (imagine those magnificent hot air balloons!), and yes, even more magnificent, exquisite clothing on display, this journey through Parisian life is truly captivating!
But you know, darling, the real magic lies not just in the clothes we wear, but in the hearts that wear them. Every lady who twirls with joy, who expresses herself with freedom and grace... they all wear their own unique and glorious pink tutu, a symbol of their individual beauty.
(Of course, a physical pink tutu just makes it all a little more magical! 😉 )
Now, don’t you dare miss out on my next #TutuTuesday! Next week, we’re travelling to the dreamiest city - I’m heading for Vienna!
