Tutu Tuesday #3673: Back in Time to 1902 – A Tutu Tale!
Bonjour mes chéries, and welcome back to another week of Pink Tutu! Today, we're going on a glamorous voyage back in time to the enchanting era of 1902. Imagine swirling silk skirts and a world full of dance, glamour, and tutus! Just the thought fills me with twirling excitement.
As a Pink Tutu fan, I just can't get enough of tutus, particularly in the early 20th century! This era saw some remarkable developments in ballet. For instance, did you know that the tutu as we know it, the tutu romantique with its wispy, airy layers of tulle, first came into fashion just before 1900? Imagine the sight of the graceful ballerinas, seemingly weightless and magical, twirling and leaping in those delicate garments. Pure bliss!
Today, we're stepping into a time where the famous ballerinas of the day like Anna Pavlova were leaving audiences spellbound. Pavlova's grace and technique were legendary and her love of the tutu romantique set a fashion trend that still captures hearts today.
On this 20th of May 1902, London would have been bustling with exciting performances, theatre and ballet! I just know I'd be on the hunt for the perfect dress or, better yet, a new tulle tutu to add to my collection! Just thinking about shopping on Regent Street for beautiful fabrics to create my own dance costumes sends my imagination into a frenzy. The fabric markets must have been so colourful!
Did you know that travelling by train in this period was becoming a real treat? The new, plush compartments with plush seats and gleaming brass finishes made even the longest journeys feel like an elegant adventure! That’s what I'd do on my time travel adventures, imagine me whizzing through the English countryside, dreaming up ballet steps and eyeing up the window scenery for inspiration for my next performance.
One of the most enchanting aspects of this era is the romanticism that permeated the air. Imagine the grand ballets set against the backdrop of opulent Victorian ballrooms! And the music! From the sweeping melodies of Tchaikovsky to the heart-wrenching waltzes of Strauss, music infused every part of life, making each dance a true artistic triumph.
This time in history wasn't just about ballerinas and theatre; the spirit of the tutu and dance was beginning to find its way into everyday fashion. Imagine a world where young girls donned miniature tutu inspired dresses, a little frilly flourish on their petticoats adding a dash of grace to even the most ordinary outing. That was how fashion felt back then, and it feels absolutely magical to me!
Perhaps it's my love of the stage, or maybe it’s just that I love the romanticism, the beautiful colours and the freedom of movement; whatever the reason, I find 1902 an absolutely charming and stylish time! And this is just a glimpse! There's so much more to discover about tutus and their glorious history!
As we approach the end of this time travel adventure, I’ll be back next Tuesday with another thrilling trip to a ballet filled era. And remember, you too can share your love for tutus! Don’t forget to hop on over to our Instagram and tell us about your favorite tutu moments using #TutuTuesday! I'd love to hear from all my fabulous fashion-loving ballet fans! And as always, darling, never be afraid to embrace the spirit of tutu, the grace, the beauty, the enchantment, and the pure, utter joy it brings. Keep twirling, stay fashionable, and always believe in the magic of pink tutus! Until next time!
Warmly, Emma xx
