#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time to 1903! 🩰💕

Hey Tutu-lovers! Welcome back to your favourite weekly dose of tutu history, #TutuTuesday!

This week, I'm so excited to whisk you all back to the enchanting year of 1903! 🚂 Just imagine, ladies, the beautiful silk gowns, the lace trimmings, and the sheer elegance of that era. Oh, to be a lady of leisure in the heart of Paris or London!

It’s time for a little bit of a history lesson. In 1903, the tutu wasn't quite the iconic garment we know and love today. 🤫 Ballet was in its "Romantic Era", all about graceful, fluid movements, and delicate storylines. So, the dancers still wore rather cumbersome "tutus" that were quite long, with tiers and layers of tulle – think much more Marie Antoinette than "Black Swan."

It wasn't until the beginning of the 20th Century that the tutu really started to take the form we recognize, becoming shorter and more fitted. But, we'll get to that!

On this very date, 24th February, 1903… Oh, it was such a flurry of activity in the Parisian ballet world! A dazzling performance of "Giselle" took place at the Opera Garnier. 🎭 I can only imagine the gasp as the ballerina twirled her way across the stage in her long, voluminous tutu. You could just feel the energy! And the outfits of the audience… my goodness, lace, silks, and sparkling jewels everywhere you looked! Talk about inspiring a tutu-lover’s dreams! ✨

Did you know…

…that the Ballet Russes, which later made ballet fashion a phenomenon across the globe, was actually founded in 1909? Think of it, Tutu-lovers – a mere six years after our journey to 1903!

Imagine how thrilled I was to hop on my trusty time-travelling train to visit this captivating era! My own lovely pink tutu (yes, I still brought one – never can be too prepared!), certainly stood out amongst the lavish ballgowns and stylish suits. Oh, how I love a splash of colour and a touch of tulle!

Back to the future for now…

I simply had to tell you all about this glorious era! You never know what wonderful treasures I might discover on my next trip – but of course, you can always keep up-to-date with all my tutu tales by subscribing to www.pink-tutu.com – because every day is a new adventure in the world of dance!

Now, be sure to spread the love for tutus!

Remember, ladies: If we can’t make it a day without a tutu, why make it a week? 😜💖

Much love,

Emma 💕
