#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 28th April 1903! (Post #3722)

Hello my darling tutu-lovers! It’s your favourite pink-tutu clad time traveller, Emma, here, and it's #TutuTuesday once again! This week, I'm whisking you all back to 28th April, 1903, to delve into the ever-fascinating history of the tutu! It’s like a vintage time machine - with fabulous fashion, of course!

Paris, My Darling:

My adventures today took me straight to Paris! Ah, Paris, the city of love and exquisite style, and, of course, ballet! Imagine, 1903: cobblestones, the smell of fresh bread and a sprinkle of Parisian chic everywhere you looked. What better setting for our tutu journey than this fabulous city?

The Ballet Tutu: Evolving Elegance

Just a whisper back in time, and tutus were beginning to transform! You see, our dearest ballerinas weren't stuck in rigid, multi-layered, fussy gowns any more. Gone were the bulky skirts, replaced by the lighter, more flowing styles that started taking centre stage in the 1890s! We’re still not talking the bare-legged, twirly-whirly tutu you see in ballet today. No, these 1903 ballerinas had a more modest affair! Their tutus were beautifully fitted to their bodies, sometimes reaching just below the knees, giving a more elegant, and perhaps a bit more glamorous look. It was all about achieving an enchanting and fluid movement for those elegant leaps and breathtaking poses.

A Glimpse Into a Ballet Performance:

This very date in 1903 saw a dazzling performance at the iconic Opera Garnier in Paris. Can you imagine the beautiful gowns, the excitement in the air? A hush falls over the grand theatre. The music begins - a swirling crescendo! And then, a vision in a billowing tutu, steps into the light - oh, what grace and beauty! They pirouette, they leap - a visual symphony of art, beauty and emotion! You can see the awe in the audience - their faces a portrait of wonder and excitement!

My Parisian Delights!

I spent a beautiful morning exploring the cobblestone streets of Paris, savoring the fragrant croissants from the charming boulangerie down the street, and indulging in a cup of coffee at a quaint cafe. I even popped into a grand fashion house on Rue de la Paix, feeling as though I’d stepped into a Jane Austen novel! Imagine the silks and satins, the whispers of silk and laughter of fashion! I even picked up a delightful silk scarf as a reminder of my Parisian adventure!

Don't forget to tag #TutuTuesday! Share your own stories! Do you have a tutu memory you’d love to share? Do you fancy a pink tutu outfit? Don’t forget to send me your own photos wearing your fabulous tutus! You know I love seeing your tutus, and you know the pinker the better! I'll be right back here next week, with a brand new tutu time-travel journey!

*Until then, remember: It's all about the tutu, darling! *

Xx, Emma
