#TutuTuesday: A Glimpse into Ballet History - 11th August 1903 - Post #3737

Hello, darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com. It's another #TutuTuesday and you know what that means – a trip through the glorious history of the most magnificent garment ever created: the tutu!

This week, I've hopped on the Orient Express (it's the best way to travel, you know! Especially when wearing a full-length tulle skirt! All those romantic swirls are practically made for train travel! ), and found myself transported back to 11th August 1903. I’ve left behind the cobbled streets of London and its buzzing theatre district – a bit too crowded for this skirt! - and arrived in the heart of the Parisian fashion scene, my dearest darlings. Oh, this is the city where the tutu really comes alive!

1903? Well, that’s when fashion really got its bloomers on, don't you know? Think frills, lace, and those fabulously puffy sleeves that make me wish I could wear one of my favourite silk blouses every day!

But back to the tutus, the star of our show, right? This time, we’re on the precipice of a ballet revolution! I’ve got my trusty pink tulle (nothing can compete with the grace and beauty of a pink tutu, I swear!) ready, because I’ve heard that one of the biggest ballet innovations of the century is just about to burst onto the scene! The "tutu de neige" – the snow-white, multi-layered tulle skirt, made of the finest fabric. Can you believe, before that, dancers were using skirts that could barely lift off the ground? Well, 1903 is the year of liberation! A time for dance to soar.

Just imagine, the ballerina steps out in her sparkling white tutu and the lights shine upon her – the pure, innocent beauty is intoxicating! I hear she’ll be whirling on stage, just like my dream waltz, my dears! A whole symphony of movement made even more majestic by the sheer elegance of this magnificent skirt. Oh, it’s all so thrilling!

You know what else makes this date so interesting, dear readers? We’ve also got the legendary Sergei Diaghilev - that’s the impresario extraordinaire! – preparing for his first Paris season. Yes, this Russian gentleman, a little more adventurous with his clothing than the Parisian socialites (dare I say he might even favour a dash of bright pink, though I’ll never admit it openly) - is revolutionising the dance scene.

Just imagine all those Parisian ballerinas with their lovely Parisian frocks, and how many of them will wear that spectacular tutu de neige? I just can't imagine the exquisite creations they’ll be dancing in – it’ll be pure spectacle!

That’s it, darlings! I must hop back on the Orient Express (with an extra pink shawl, I’m sure you understand why!), and write a little more about Parisian couture. I simply can’t help myself, those intricate floral embroideries and sumptuous satins – so utterly lovely!

And don’t forget, dearies, next Tuesday I’ll be taking you on another thrilling adventure, so pop on your pink tutu (and grab your ballet shoes! You never know what adventures await! ) – and come join me!

Remember, the more pink tutus in the world, the brighter the world!

Love and pink wishes,

Emma xx
