#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History ā 12th January, 1904 - Post #3759!
Hello darlings, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet! Itās Tuesday, which means itās time to delve into the fascinating world of the ballet tutu once again!
This week, weāre travelling back in time to 12th January, 1904. Buckle up, because we're going to Paris, the beating heart of the ballet world at this time! Iām feeling quite dashing today, wearing my favourite blush pink tutu and my sparkling emerald green shawl. Oh, the glamour!
Now, where were we? Ah yes, 1904. Think long, flowing skirts, opulent costumes, and those dramatic, graceful moves that define the golden age of ballet. We're talking The Ballets Russes - the most fabulous company in the world - making a splash on the scene and captivating audiences with their extraordinary style.
A Little Time Travelling Taleā¦
Just imagine arriving at the OpĆ©ra Garnier in Paris! Itās such an iconic building! I can just picture the bustling scene outside with carriages and elegant crowds. A sense of excitement, a little anticipation hangs in the air. Just before the lights go down, a gentle melody floats through the theatreā¦and everyone is mesmerized. Itās truly an unforgettable experience.
But whatās actually happening in 1904?
Letās dive a bit deeper. The biggest news this month in the world of ballet was the premier of the Ballets Russes in Paris. Think shimmering costumes, swirling colours and those majestic dances! Itās the year that brought us āThe Firebird,ā * with those dazzling sets by Bakst! (Donāt you love the bright colours and dramatic storytelling?) Oh, and *āScheherazadeā, that unforgettable tale of intrigue and love! We simply must go and see one of these productions ourselves ā the costumes must be stunning!
Where Did We Leave Our Pink TutĆ¹s?
Remember those gorgeous tutus the ballerinas are wearing on stage? This was the era where the romantic and classical ballet styles are being combined - leading to the designs we see today! Long skirts are now gone, giving way to these breathtaking tutus that really let those dancers show off their grace and movement. Imagine seeing a dancer leaping, her pink tutu floating around her in a blur of beauty!
Speaking of Pink TutĆ¹s, oh, youāve simply got to pop into the most incredible milliner's I've found in the Marais district. I discovered a delicate pale pink feather boa last week - it's simply divine, I must say. Canāt wait to style it with one of my tutus this weekend! It reminds me of those amazing feather costumes of the Ballet Russes! They are absolutely mind-blowing.
I simply love travelling to new places to watch ballet shows! Seeing a performance is so exhilarating. What about the fashion? There are the gorgeous costumes the dancers wear. And look at the audiences in the theatres, wearing their finery, adding to the incredible glamour. I do believe I might add a long, silk gown to my wardrobe...
The Best Bits of My Trip
There are always exciting adventures to be had, arenāt there? But the best part about visiting the Parisian Opera is having that amazing, exhilarating, ballet-filled moment ā knowing I'm part of something so magical, so important.
Right, darling, I'm off to practice my plies and get ready for another fabulous trip through time! Remember to join me next week for another fascinating #TutuTuesday, when we'll be travelling to the world of fashion and ballet in 1905! Until then, remember: *Always stay fabulous! *
And always, wear pink!
Bisous! Emma x
