#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back in Time - 18th October 1904
Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-loving time traveler, ready to whisk you away on another delightful #TutuTuesday adventure. Today, we're stepping back in time, all the way to 18th October 1904, and let me tell you, the fashions of that era were truly captivating! This is post number 3799, so you know I'm absolutely bonkers about this!
I must say, the journey was quite the adventure. A grand Victorian train, plush seats, the chuff-chuff of the engine, and the gentle sway of the carriage as we sped through the English countryside. So romantic, don't you think? As soon as I got here, I popped into the most adorable millinery shop. They had the most stunning hats! Feathers, ribbons, and those fabulous, big, floppy shapes - just heavenly! I can already imagine how fabulous I'd look twirling on stage in a delicate pink tutu with a showstopper like that on my head.
Oh, but where were we? Ah yes, 1904! Just imagine, all the amazing stories this date holds. This is the year the first ever Grand Prix of the Automobile Club de France took place! Just think, motor cars, the future, whizzing through the streets! I’d love to be in a beautiful, big, elegant car with a handsome driver, heading for a delightful afternoon tea and some ballet watching, Wouldn’t that be delightful?
Now, let’s talk ballet. The ballet world of 1904 was truly in its golden age! Think flowing tulle, elegant poses, and of course, those enchanting tutus. Remember those beautiful ballerina dresses we saw in the museum, darlings? Tight bodices, and that airy, floating skirt of tulle that billows out?
Here’s a fun fact! The name 'tutu' for the dance skirt, wasn't actually popular yet! They were often called "a dress" or "a skirt," so no 'tutu' yet! You know, the 'tutu' has come a long way, hasn't it? From those simple and elegant creations to the amazing ones they make today. And yet, we can still see a thread of that original Victorian grace and femininity.
Speaking of tutus, darlings, did I tell you that this week I had the chance to perform at a lovely theatre in the city of Paris? Such a whirlwind! There was a dazzling show filled with such a grand ensemble, complete with fabulous costumes. Honestly, it was a dream! And my pink tutu got so much attention – all eyes on this fabulous, flamboyant, fantastic shade! You know how much I love the pink and this truly was the highlight of my journey back to 1904. The beautiful French ballets were amazing, but oh my, you can't forget about the fashion! Parisian chic - such elegance and charm! Imagine waltzing the night away in a dazzling ball gown, all while my favourite pink tutu waits to greet the stage the following day! I can only hope one day, Paris will fully embrace the glorious shade of pink as their new style obsession!
Now, the shopping in 1904! This is the true piece de resistance! You know I love clothes shopping, darlings, and you have no idea the absolute treasure trove of elegant shops here. We’re talking beautiful fabrics, stunning lace, intricate details on all sorts of clothes! There's an abundance of fabrics here in gorgeous blues and reds, the colours that were very popular back then. They even have incredible black silks which remind me of those Victorian mourning dresses we've read about, very dramatic and romantic.
And can you believe it, my darlings? The lace! Some of the exquisite patterns would take days to create - imagine that intricate craft! Just picture yourself dancing the night away in a ball gown made with this fine fabric, you’d simply look radiant! Oh, I could stay in 1904 forever just to keep shopping for stunning fabrics like that, all while sporting my gorgeous pink tutu, of course!
Here's something very funny. While shopping for fabrics in 1904, I stumbled upon this intriguing ad in a magazine: ‘Don't be old-fashioned, use an up-to-date bicycle for your outdoor activities.’ It seems bicycles were starting to become very trendy, imagine riding through town on a bicycle while wearing a bright pink tutu? A true spectacle! I couldn't help but think it’d be just another grand way to make my statement, a pink-clad cyclist dancing along to the music of the wind as I whizzed past shops, and maybe even a passing car! Just delightful!
I hope this peek into 1904 inspired you, my dear #TutuTuesday friends. Remember, ballet isn't just a dance - it's a journey through time, an explosion of beauty and artistry, and let’s not forget those glorious pink tutus that dance through every era with an unstoppable elegance!
Now, let's travel back to our time. Catch you all next #TutuTuesday! Until then, darlings, keep dreaming, keep twirling, and don’t forget – Pink is ALWAYS in fashion!
