#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 1905-02-07
Hello darlings!
Welcome to another #TutuTuesday, your weekly dose of all things tutu and ballet history! This week, we're hopping back in time, all the way to the 7th of February, 1905. Ooh, this time period is just such a treat for the eyes. So grab a cuppa, settle in, and get ready for a right good old time!
As you lovely lot know, this here pink tutu wearing blogger, Emma, is totally passionate about the story of the tutu! So here I am in Paris, the absolute hub of ballet fashion, right in the thick of things! And you wouldn't believe the magnificent costumes, I just had to get this all down for you lovely readers!
Paris Fashion & the Romantic Ballet Era
Now, in 1905, ballet is going through a truly beautiful period, full of romanticism, all swishy skirts, and dainty movements. The French are truly the pioneers of all things elegant and fashionable, especially in the world of ballet! The tutus, oh, they're absolutely glorious. We're talking layers and layers of tulle, all ethereal and dreamy.
These Parisian ballerinas are just so feminine in their tutus - there are no short, tight styles here! Instead, we've got all sorts of glorious ruffles and flounces, with so many tiers it takes forever to whirl. I bet you're already imagining them gracefully gliding across the stage. Imagine the sound of those tiers swishing! I'd wager they almost hum as they dance, so gorgeous.
Ballet Shows of the Era - The Royal Ballet
And the performances are truly magical, full of swirling, fairy-like movements, complete with gorgeous, dramatic music that makes my heart flutter. Right now I'm here watching the legendary Russian ballet dancer, Anna Pavlova, who was so unbelievably graceful in her role in "The Dying Swan" - simply a must-see if you're ever lucky enough to visit Paris.
Travel to Paris By Train
Speaking of travelling, I hopped onto the train from Derbyshire. Oh, it was so glamorous, everyone was dressed up in their best clothes - think hats, furs, and the ladies loved their silk dresses! I nearly had a heart attack from the fashion parade, just as glorious as a ballet performance itself! Of course, I wouldn't have been caught dead without my pink tutu peeking out! It's so vital to make a statement and always incorporate the perfect tutu.
Shopping - a Tutu Enthusiast's Paradise
Oh darling, have you seen the shops in Paris?! Every one I've seen is bursting with exquisite ribbons, satins, and oh-so-pretty laces - perfect for making your very own tutu, or simply buying some exquisite fashion delights. It's my goal in life to convince all of you to sew up a delightful tutu and wear it with pride! Oh, to see all the people on the train rocking their best tutu! What a lovely way to inspire the masses and promote love for this beautiful garment!
My Inspiration - Ballet for the People
Right now I'm on my way to see the "Nutcracker". It's truly magnificent - I swear I almost cried with emotion at the beauty of it all! But don't worry, you lovely people! There's more than enough time for another Tutu Tuesday blog, next week I'm sharing all about the magic of the "Nutcracker"! Don't miss it!
My Dream: Everyone in Pink Tutues
You know what I'd love? To see all the people in the world wearing pink tutus, a beautiful pink tutu revolution! Maybe it can all start with this #PinkTutuTuesday blog - we can have a beautiful, worldwide Tutu Movement where people inspire each other to dance, to spin, and to just be utterly delightful! You see, my darlings, I'm a true believer that we can all be graceful, beautiful and magnificent with a little bit of imagination, passion and of course, a lovely, pink tutu.
Now, until next time! Take care of yourselves, love life, and most importantly:
Wear a Tutu!
Emma
