Tutu Tuesday: A Whirl Through Time - 1905!
Welcome back, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma, back with another thrilling voyage through the wonderful world of tutus!
Tutu Tuesday #3821 takes us all the way back to March 21st, 1905! Imagine - a time of bustling streets, steam-powered trains and a whole world of fashion ready to be explored! I always feel a thrill stepping out of my little time machine onto the cobbled streets of... oh, let me introduce you! We're in the grand old city of Paris, the heart of ballet! Where else would a tutu lover be on a day like this?
I've chosen Paris for this time hop, not just for the delicious croissants and divine fashion, but because of the truly remarkable ballet performances that happened here this very day. Oh, the privilege of seeing such masterpieces!
But let's not rush ahead, my dears!
The History of Our Favourite Garment
I know what you're thinking - How did they get dressed for ballet back then? You wouldn't believe how long the story goes back, and we are actually very close to the year the tutu came into being in its most modern form!
Imagine yourself at the Opéra Garnier - it's the place for grand ballet! It's full of glittering chandeliers and plush velvet seats. This year in 1905, we had some absolute masterpieces performed, with gorgeous, billowing costumes on stage, with a strong focus on grace and femininity. It wasn't as dramatically "short" as we know it now - a lot of these tutues flowed dramatically to the ground with delicate silk and shimmering fabrics! *Isn't that just magical? *
Ballet fashion in 1905 focused on elegance and precision, like the ballerinas themselves. You could even imagine one of these gorgeous ballerinas being a young Anna Pavlova, gracing the stage with her exceptional artistry and exquisite elegance, the queen of the tutus! The "romantic" style still prevailed back then, and this classic, timeless ballerina elegance truly speaks to me.
My Adventures in 1905 Paris
This trip has been particularly amazing because I traveled all the way by train from Derbyshire, England! It took almost twenty-four hours in a first-class carriage - but I'd rather ride a train in first class than walk across this city with its cobbled streets in a silk dress! It really does help set the mood!
Oh my! And Paris! Where to begin? There was the most beautiful vintage clothing boutique right near the Opéra Garnier, and I simply had to visit! They had such fantastic outfits - dresses with puffed sleeves, little capes, beautiful silk stockings! I managed to purchase a few items. And you know what goes with everything? My favourite colour of pink! Naturally, the dress I had to have was a bright pink satin dress that is absolutely perfect for this vintage style. I even tried a lace-trimmed bodice top, which really brings it all together with an old-time elegance! I adore how well this new dress blends with the modern take on the tutu with this classic look. I bought enough fabric to make a pink tutu, but I won't tell you what it will be!
But, my biggest discovery - and I really think you all should be thinking about this - *was a shop filled entirely with *ballet tutus. * Oh, it was like a tutu heaven! *So many colours! From classic white to gorgeous pastels, *to even bright red tutus, but most importantly to *my eyes - pink tutus!! Oh! This was so special - and even more special, the lady who owned the shop allowed me to have a try-on session. * Imagine trying on a variety of stunning tutus in an atmosphere full of fashion, beauty and joy! * The perfect place to immerse myself in the history of ballet and get ready for the night’s performance at the Garnier!
And after this incredible journey into the past, I am truly in love with these early tutus. They have such graceful lines and are just as dramatic as modern styles, just in a completely different way. You really can get that look! Imagine adding layers of tulle underneath a silky overskirt for that "flowing" effect, perfect for all occasions!
Tonight's Show
Tonight, I will be witnessing an exclusive performance at the Garnier. And let's talk about the grandeur of it all! Everything is so luxurious and ornate - even the theatre seats were so plush and comfy!
Now, I must away, dears. A magnificent evening at the opera awaits! Make sure to visit our www.pink-tutu.com website and check out some of my vintage-inspired outfit choices and, of course, tutus! And remember, pink is always in fashion!
Stay fashion-tastic until next Tuesday!
