#TutuTuesday: A Glimpse Back to 1905 - A Ballet Tutu's Birthday!

Dearest fellow tutu-lovers!

Welcome to another delightful #TutuTuesday, my darlings. Today, we're whisking back in time to a date that holds a very special significance in the ballet world - June 20th, 1905! As you know, I absolutely adore delving into ballet history - those swirling tutus, the breathtaking artistry, and the glorious costumes! It's a whole world waiting to be explored, and I, for one, wouldn't have it any other way.

Today's blog is a bit of a special one, my loves, as we celebrate a real tutu milestone.

The Birthday of a Tutu Icon

The year 1905, a year bursting with fashionable charm, is especially memorable for us tutu-enthusiasts because, on this very day, June 20th, the world saw the premiere of *_Le Pavillon d’Armide_ at the Théâtre de l’Opéra de Paris.* This ballet was a momentous occasion as it marked a very special moment for the world of tutus, a moment which brought to life a particular kind of tutu we now all know and love.

Oh, how exciting! Just imagine the excitement that filled the Parisian air as the dancers took to the stage in their billowing tutus!

But, my loves, this particular premiere didn't just witness a lovely, flowy, ballet tutu. This ballet is renowned for its unique and glorious *_Romanesque Tutu_,* a type of tutu that, at that time, was unlike any other!

Now, let me take you on a little journey to explore just how extraordinary this Romanesque Tutu really is.

A Tale of the Romanesque Tutu

The Romanesque Tutu, named, quite cleverly, after the Romanesque architectural style with its flowing, airy, arches and soaring lines, has a shape all its own. Gone are the perfectly smooth, cone-shaped silhouettes of previous tutu designs.

Instead, imagine layers of fabric cascading over one another like the arches of a medieval cathedral. Now, picture that shape moving in sync with a ballerina's elegant, fluid movements – pure magic, my loves, absolute magic!

Think flowing lines, softly layered tiers, and an exquisite sense of movement that seems to defy gravity. This style of tutu brings a dreamy quality to every dance, a vision of ethereal beauty that, I dare say, leaves all other tutu designs in the dust!

And, let me tell you, this innovation caused quite a stir in the Parisian world. The Parisian press, the ultimate arbiter of fashionable trends, was in awe! You know it!

It seems everyone was enamored with the dreamy, almost poetic quality the Romanesque tutu brought to the stage. Suddenly, even those who had never dared venture into the world of ballet were falling in love with its exquisite form.

And it was all thanks to the imaginative artistry of a talented choreographer, Michel Fokine, who dared to dream of a tutu that was more than just a cone shape, more than just fabric. It was an era when ballerinas were just starting to explore the art of dancing as more than a set sequence, more than a rigid form, and Michel Fokine's visionary creativity really changed the landscape of tutu design. His vision has endured for generations and, to this day, continues to inspire dancers and tutu designers worldwide.

So, my dears, on this #TutuTuesday, raise a glass to the magical birth of the Romanesque tutu! May its swirling tiers and enchanting lines forever grace our stages, reminding us of the boundless creativity that can be found in the ballet world.

Now, where did I put that Romanesque Tutu pattern...? I do love making my own designs, and you can too, darlings, and with pink-tutu.com, you have everything you need right at your fingertips!

A Wonderful Day in London

Right, after I've taken some time to admire the artistry of a few Romanesque Tutùs, I must pop into The Royal Opera House. What could be more fitting than spending a little time at this glorious home of ballet in honour of the beautiful Romanesque Tutu's birthday?

I do adore the majestic grandeur of The Royal Opera House! It feels so glamorous! From the gilded foyer to the exquisitely adorned auditorium, it's a stage for our fantasies! This enchanting theatre just screams 'fairy tale,' don't you agree? I dare say, I’ll pop by the theatre’s gift shop to see what wonders they have for sale - perhaps a new pair of opera gloves? Or a charming little ballet-themed handbag?

I am so delighted that we can learn all about tutus together. Thank you for coming to this post and for always supporting my #TutuTuesday Blog. I hope you'll join me next week for more #TutuTuesday fun as we uncover the secrets of yet another magnificent ballerina's tutu. Until next Tuesday, my darlings, may your days be filled with as much grace and sparkle as a Romanesque tutu in a grand ballet performance!

Keep on twirling, * *Emma
