#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post #3838

Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com for another dose of tutu-rific history! It's #TutuTuesday, and today, we're whisking ourselves back to a very special date - the 18th of July, 1905!

Can you believe it's been over a century since we've danced with this particular time period? Today, I'm bringing you a little piece of history about the tutu and how it evolved to become the beautiful, airy garment we adore today.

Now, I'm standing in the heart of Paris, oh la la! This beautiful city has been at the centre of all things tutu since, well, pretty much forever! There's an undeniable elegance in the air here, the smell of freshly baked pastries andā€¦ of course, a gentle waft of tulle! Iā€™m loving my outfit - a frothy pink tutu, a pale yellow silk blouse with a lace trim, and matching gloves. It's simply perfect for strolling through the charming streets of this enchanting city.

1905, you say? Well, this period was all about flowing lines and billowing fabric. The classic, tiered, romantic tutu was already a favourite on the Parisian stage, with its shorter length and layered fabric giving dancers the freedom to pirouette with exquisite grace.

Now, imagine my delight, darling! On this very date in 1905, the celebrated ballet ā€œThe Sleeping Beautyā€ premiered at the ThĆ©Ć¢tre de lā€™OpĆ©ra Garnier! The ballet, an ode to romanticism and grandeur, was a visual feast for the eyes, especially thanks to the stunning costumes, particularly those delightful tutus worn by the dancers!

The choreography by the great Marius Petipa, famous for his lavish stage productions and his focus on graceful movement, perfectly showcased the ethereal elegance of these early-1900s tutus. The tutus in "The Sleeping Beauty" were more elaborate than those seen before - their multiple layers of tulle creating a voluminous silhouette, a visual ode to fairy-tale dreams!

Speaking of dreams, I just found the most delightful dress shop down the road - its name? "Les Papillons". It's just the place for a little sartorial indulgence! Just wait till you see the selection of the most gorgeous fabrics. Think silks in delicate shades of lilac and dove grey, ribbons of shimmering satin, andā€¦ drum roll, pleaseā€¦ a wide selection of exquisite tulle! I must say, my Parisian shopping trip has just gotten very exciting!

Of course, tutus arenā€™t only worn on stage, no darling! Just look around, this style is sweeping the streets of Paris! Parisian ladies are rocking shorter skirts with tiers, borrowing inspiration from the delicate elegance of the stage.

Don't worry, dear readers, I wonā€™t leave you hanging. Thereā€™s so much to learn about the fascinating world of ballet, especially its evolution and history, that we're just going to have to hop back in time next Tuesday and explore this era even further. Don't miss next week's #TutuTuesday where weā€™ll travel to London and discover the world of ballet from another perspective, a whole new adventure awaits!
