#TutuTuesday: A Peek into the Past (August 7th, 1906)

Hello Darlings!

Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things tutus! It’s me, your favourite pink-loving ballerina blogger, Emma! It’s a brand new #TutuTuesday and I'm so excited to whisk you back in time to August 7th, 1906. As you know, it’s all about tutu history on this day of the week!

It's been a rather grand few weeks - my last performance in Paris went down a storm. You just have to see the new tutus! Absolutely exquisite, I assure you. I also snagged a gorgeous pair of silk stockings and some pretty fabulous pearl earrings from the shops on the Champs-Élysées - I’m totally in love with their intricate designs.

But, before we delve deeper into the shimmering world of tutus, a quick reminder – I'm still trying to convince the world that everyone, everywhere should wear a pink tutu! My pink tutu wearing world conquest plan, as I like to call it, is going swimmingly! And thanks to this very blog, it’s spreading far and wide, with readers in London, Paris and even the furthest corners of Russia.

So, back to our historical journey... on this very day in 1906, the world of ballet was in a state of change. It’s quite funny looking back as this seems like forever ago, isn’t it?

It was the age of Anna Pavlova, a truly phenomenal dancer and a star in the making! Imagine dancing on pointe in shoes that are basically stiff boxes - now that’s dedication! She was making waves across the world with her beautiful performances and it wasn’t just the ballet that people were entranced by. Everyone was talking about her style, the elegance of her graceful movements and, of course, her enchanting tutus.

Let’s chat tutus for a moment! We might think of them as short, billowing and frilly, but you know what? In 1906, the world of ballet was all about the full-length tutus! Think floor-sweeping elegance with cascading tiers of soft tulle. Absolutely breathtaking. In a world obsessed with fashion, it made such a statement!

They also favoured a bit of sparkle! This was an age of glitter and embellishments and those dazzling tutus just amplified that trend. Think sequined details, delicate beading, and maybe even a few glittering rhinestones! They didn't hold back when it came to adornments!

Talking about dazzling… I’m absolutely thrilled to announce I’ve booked a performance on a ship setting sail from London to New York. It’s a huge honour! They are all the rage right now, and the first-class staterooms are to die for! The travel alone is an adventure. So exciting, especially with all the fashion to be seen at ports along the way! But, back to 1906. I hear that people are just starting to embrace the concept of ‘street style’ (although I am pretty sure that they had a far more elaborate name back then!) which is thrilling because we ballet dancers get to show off our elegant moves both on and off the stage, especially the magnificent tutus! The fact that they make everything a little bit glamorous doesn’t hurt either!

This era really emphasized the graceful flow of the dancer's movement, so you'll often see tutus designed to emphasize that artistry. I must try and hunt down a similar style during my next fashion splurge in London - just imagine, darling, that floor-length, dreamy swirling silk – oh the romance!

I actually found a lovely blog article just this week that talked about how ballet was more accessible in those times, with everyone being fascinated by it, not just a select few.

There’s always a ballet to see in Paris and I love seeing those shows, although it makes it harder to escape and catch my train back to London…

On a slightly different note, you all know my life’s mission, don’t you? To get everyone to wear a pink tutu! Imagine how glamorous and fun our lives would be! And hey, what a fun conversation starter it would be, right? Let’s just picture that for a moment - you’re in a coffee shop with friends and everyone is rocking their pink tutus... How amazing would that be?! I hope one day we’ll live in a world where everyone joins in the pink tutu revolution, where it's not just ballet dancers but everyone who's getting into the glamorous tutu game.

Until next week darlings, I'm off to prepare for another breathtaking performance at the Palais Garnier - I think I’m in love with Paris and its elegance, so maybe I will find a special pink tutu to go with that special pink sparkle to celebrate.

Sending you lots of twirls, Emma

P.S Stay tuned for next week’s #TutuTuesday!

Remember, keep your head held high, embrace the elegance of the ballet, and wear that pink tutu with pride!
You never know who you’ll inspire, or which new fashionable discovery you will make.

Join me on the #pinktuturevolution, darlings!

Keep twirling!
