#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 3895: A Blast From the Past: 21st August, 1906!
Hello darlings! Welcome to another glorious #TutuTuesday on www.pink-tutu.com - my little corner of the internet where tutus reign supreme and all things twirly are celebrated. Today, I'm taking a trip down memory lane, all the way back to the 21st of August, 1906! It was a real scorcher of a summer day - imagine a perfectly sunny, cloudless blue sky and the gentle warmth on your skin.
Just picture me, in a fluffy, pale pink tutu, hopping off the train at Euston Station, ready for a magical adventure in the heart of London. Yes, darlings, my travels brought me back to this incredible city, brimming with creativity and elegance. It's no surprise that it's a hub for the arts - with theatres overflowing with mesmerising plays and music. Oh, and did I mention the ballet!
Of course, being a true ballerina at heart, I had to make my way to Covent Garden - the pinnacle of London's ballet scene. This iconic theatre, known for its incredible history and stunning performances, was, and still is, a true gem. On this particular day in 1906, I had the sheer pleasure of witnessing a performance by none other than the great Anna Pavlova. Imagine, darling! Seeing a ballet icon grace the stage with her unparalleled grace and artistry!
Back in those days, the style of tutu was different. A little longer, flowing with tulle that skimmed the calves and legs. The tutus weren't so high or puffed as the ones we see today. The emphasis was on a fluidity of movement - creating a wave-like effect with every leap and pirouette. Think graceful, ethereal elegance with a touch of fairytale magic!
Don't worry darlings, even though those lovely Victorian-era styles are different from the short, puffy, ultra-girly modern ones, they still spark a certain 'je ne sais quoi.' They bring a touch of nostalgic charm that speaks volumes. I just can't resist a little retro flair!
Speaking of styles, darling, my mind was positively spinning with all the fascinating fashion around me. I spotted stylish gentlemen in dapper suits and women clad in exquisite gowns. Everyone seemed to radiate confidence and an air of refined taste. It really inspired my love for finding the perfect outfit and embracing the fun side of dressing up.
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, I felt a warm glow in my heart - knowing I was part of something extraordinary. Being surrounded by such talented performers and the atmosphere buzzing with artistic energy just makes a girl want to twirl, doesn't it?
And twirl, darling, is what we do. So, let's embrace this day of magic and immerse ourselves in the sheer joy of dancing. I've already pencilled in a class at the local studio. Nothing beats the feel of those beautiful, light, soft layers of tulle caressing your skin as you execute that perfect pliรฉ.
My trip to London's 1906 was absolutely unforgettable. A whirlwind of amazing performances, a celebration of beauty, and a timeless connection with a beautiful art form that keeps inspiring, reminding us of the joy in movement, elegance, and creativity.
Don't forget, my dears, you don't have to travel back in time to feel this magic! Slip into a fabulous tutu, find your own dance studio, put on a record or your favourite playlist and simply enjoy the moment.
Love and twirls, Emma xxx
