A Romantic Whirl Through Parisian Theatres

Oh, darling, how I love my jaunts through the annals of ballet history, especially when they take me to Paris. Paris is just dripping in fashion and grace! For this week's journey, we're whisked away to the year 1907. What a time to be a ballerina!

Can you imagine the opulence of the Paris Opera House on this very date, February 12th, 1907, with a dazzling production of “Giselle,” the story of a young village girl whose tragic love leads to a poignant, ballet-infused journey to the other world?

The theatre, an architectural marvel in itself, would have buzzed with the elegant sounds of Strauss's "Blue Danube" waltzes filling the air, setting the scene for the love and longing of Giselle's story. Just the thought makes my toes tingle for a pirouette!

Now, in the world of ballet history, 1907 is quite a pivotal point. Imagine my joy, darlings! It marks the birth of what we might call the "Romantic Tutu." This exquisite creation - which I happen to adore - featured long, flowing layers of tulle that moved with incredible grace. The sheer volume of it was like a fluffy cloud just waiting for the ballerinas to flit and twirl through!

Think of the enchanted look of ballerinas like the divine Anna Pavlova, with her incredibly expressive grace and ability to portray such delicate vulnerability! They practically floated above the stage in this romantic silhouette, and it's easy to see why the audiences went wild!

But, darling, it wasn’t just the ballerinas who loved the romantic tutu! It also swept the fashion world by storm.

Pink, of course, is my all-time favourite, so I've found myself spending hours on my trips to the "Belle Époque" gazing into shop windows where elegant ladies are admiring gowns made in a similar style. It’s that delicate touch, the way it flows like a soft cloud, that just makes your heart melt, wouldn’t you say?

And the romance of it! Oh, the whispers of elegant receptions, the tinkling of glasses, and the elegant ballrooms, filled with couples gliding effortlessly - it makes a tutu lover like myself want to join them all!

From The Train To The Stage: A Fashionable Adventure

I actually reached Paris by train, darlings, travelling from my lovely home in Derbyshire, England. It’s all a bit of a journey, you see. I wouldn’t have it any other way, of course. Trains are a marvelous invention, you know - all those intricate workings, the luxurious seats, the steaming tea, and of course, the panoramic views - how can a ballerina resist such romantic escapades? And let's be honest - they're perfect for twirling.

Just a little tip, darling. If you find yourself taking the train for your ballet adventures, do remember to pack a lovely little hat, or a stylish hair scarf. It will help your hairstyle last - especially when the journey might be a tad long! Oh, and don’t forget to pack your dance shoes. You never know what impromptu opportunity will appear for a lovely twirl!

A Dreamy Journey Of Tutus, Fashion & Ballet

Paris, in 1907, was truly a sight to behold. I had a wonderful time popping into all sorts of elegant boutiques, picking out all the latest fashionable fabrics for my future creations. It really is an inspirational place. You can just feel the energy in the air!

Of course, what would a Parisian trip be without a delightful ballet performance? And so I spent a blissful evening watching a magnificent performance of “Giselle.” The passion and emotion of it all left me utterly mesmerised. And oh, the artistry of the dancing, the beauty of the Romantic Tutu - simply exquisite!

The tutus danced and fluttered around the stage like delicate petals in a swirling breeze. The dancers’ bodies moved like poetry in motion, making their own ethereal beauty manifest. I even found myself, a little teary-eyed - a ballerina can be such a softie!

Now, darlings, you know that it’s my passion to share my love for ballet with everyone, especially with young girls. And you know, after this lovely trip to Paris and all these tutus - and my favourite, pink, of course - there’s an idea brewing for a special kind of tutu project for girls in Derbyshire. Just wait and see!

I do hope you've enjoyed your journey with me through Parisian ballet history. I'm always eager to share my adventures and tutu obsessions with you. As always, stay tuned for more ballet history and delightful fashion discoveries. And remember, darling, a tutu isn't just a piece of clothing - it's a gateway to dreams, magic, and infinite twirls.

And, don’t forget:

Keep on twirling, darling! Until next week! 😘💖

Emma
