Tutu Tuesday #3924: A Peek Into the Parisian Dance Scene of 1907

Bonjour mes chéries! It's your favourite tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, here, bringing you another #TutuTuesday blog post from my favourite spot in the world - Paris! The city of lights, love, and yes, believe it or not, ballet! As a ballerina with a passion for fashion, this city is simply intoxicating.

Now, let's rewind the clock to 12th March, 1907. Imagine yourself stepping onto the cobbled streets of Paris. The air is alive with the sounds of horse-drawn carriages, the chatter of fashionable Parisians, and the scent of freshly baked croissants wafting from nearby patisseries.

I'm dressed in a ravishing pink tutu - a vision in delicate tulle and sparkling sequins - with my trusty travelling companion, my elegant little handbag. The cobblestones do make a rather loud 'clink' against my leather shoes, but it's a small price to pay for the pure joy of exploring Parisian style.

This week, my adventures led me to the Théùtre de l'Opéra Garnier, the magnificent jewel of the city's performing arts scene. Even today, nearly a century and a half later, the building takes my breath away. The gilded grandeur of the interior is dazzling - a kaleidoscope of plush velvet seating, sparkling chandeliers, and meticulously painted ceilings. It's pure spectacle, just like the ballets they perform here.

Tonight, the "La BohĂšme" by Giacomo Puccini will be performed. Oh, my dear readers! A true story of Parisian bohemians set against the beautiful, bittersweet backdrop of the late 19th century. Can you imagine the incredible music and the dramatic scenes, especially with the dazzling artistry of these legendary Parisian ballerinas?

As I settle into my plush red velvet seat, I can't help but peek around the auditorium, observing the sartorial delights of the crowd. Hats, feathered boas, and elegant gloves are all the rage! Paris is definitely a feast for the eyes - every Parisian lady is a ballerina at heart. And you can be too!

Speaking of ballerinas, I spotted Mademoiselle Anna Pavlova at the Opera this week! A dazzling performer with such grace and fluidity, it's no wonder she's known as a legend of her time. Did you know her renowned ‘dying swan’ routine captivated the world? Imagine - such raw emotion conveyed through the most delicate of movements. And of course, with a fabulous white swan costume that accentuated her incredible artistry. Truly inspirational!

Oh, but the ballet isn't the only reason I’m enthralled with Paris in 1907. The shops! They're filled with exquisite creations, especially for those with a passion for dance and all things elegant. Imagine a shop overflowing with silks, chiffons, velvets, lace, and ribbons in all the most beautiful shades. Every ballerina's dream, right? I was positively giddy in the “Maison Paquin”, where the “New French Dress” style of the time was all the rage. Long, graceful lines and elegant embellishments - a true testament to Parisian fashion!

Don't get me wrong - Parisian elegance isn't always about lavish gowns and luxurious fabrics. A simple dress, cut to perfection with a chic hat, and a dash of charming accessories can make you the most stylish lady in the room. This is what makes the city so delightful, so intoxicating to a sartorialist like me!

And just like the Parisians love their fine clothing, the elegance of dance takes the city by storm, even beyond the confines of the grand theatre. Did you know that "ballets Ă  la russe" are the rage this season? Ballet, a dance that originates in Italy but has been perfected in the Royal Ballet schools of Russia. These innovative dance troupes and ballet classes are popping up everywhere! You see their dancers even performing in streets of Paris, on cobblestones surrounded by an admiring public!

Now, if only every young lady back in Derbyshire could have the same opportunity. But I'm here to change that! I aim to share the magic of Parisian style with every ballerina at heart, even if you are far, far away! That's why my pink tutu is such a special thing. It's a symbol of our shared love for dance, for celebrating creativity, and yes, for our love of the beautiful things in life.

That's all from me for now. Until next week, when I'll take you on another whirlwind trip through time! In the meantime, go on, treat yourself to a delightful Parisian moment right now! Find your own ballet class, wear your finest dress and let your inner Parisian out to play. It's never too late to embrace the beauty and wonder of the world of dance, no matter where you are!

And don’t forget – embrace your pink tutus, everyone!
