#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 3969! 🩰💖
Hey Tutu-lovers! It's your girl, Emma, back with another #TutuTuesday for my beloved www.pink-tutu.com, and I'm bursting with excitement to talk about this fabulous week's history! Buckle up, because this trip's a real corker!
Today we're zipping back to January 21st, 1908. Picture this, darlings: gaslight flickering on the streets of Paris, the air crisp and buzzing with the excitement of a brand new year. It's the age of flapper dresses and bobbed hairstyles, and believe me, this era is brimming with style!
Oh, the ballet in 1908 was truly something special. Now, I've popped in on the Opéra Garnier, one of the most famous theatres in the world - think elaborate chandeliers, red velvet seats, and a stage designed to dazzle. Ballet, at this point, is becoming more dramatic, and ballerinas are truly taking centre stage! They're dancing in a way that makes you want to grab your friend's hand and shriek with excitement. They're daring, beautiful, and incredibly strong!
What’s even more incredible is the costumes, darling! You’ve got the tutus, but think beyond those puffy Romantic ballet days – 1908 brings new excitement and a whole new design movement. You’ll find long, flowing tutus with layers upon layers of chiffon that create the most amazing billows. I’ve spotted some tutus in this year’s productions that are literally swishing to the floor – picture it, darling, absolutely dreamy.
Of course, my pink-loving self has been scouring the shops, and it’s no surprise that the color pink is utterly everywhere. Pink tulle, pink velvet, and pink feathers – just wait till you see the colour combinations. I must confess, even my favourite tutus have a hint of that darling, dusty rose!
This era saw the rise of some incredibly talented ballerinas. Anna Pavlova was truly iconic, and trust me, she’s absolutely nailing her iconic dance – "The Dying Swan." I mean, the performance left me with goosebumps! This dance is a classic for a reason, ladies – the raw emotion and incredible technique, it’s no wonder it captured everyone’s hearts, including mine.
Speaking of captured hearts, 1908 brought a new kind of fashion that swept the world! I just had to grab a dress with a flapper style while I was out. And what’s a new look without a fab new hat, eh? Let me tell you, it’s all about that headwear! I’ve picked up a stunning hat with pink feathers – perfectly in line with my pink-tutu obsessed life, naturally.
I just can’t resist a little indulgence at one of the elegant Parisian tearooms, darling, and you can imagine, I’m surrounded by other fashion-conscious women. It's all about the delicate finger sandwiches, sweet tea – and discussing all the latest in ballet news! What else could you wish for?
I had to spend a day exploring the world-renowned shops. Parisian shopping streets are an experience in itself, the stores crammed with jewels, luxurious textiles, and of course, the tutu shop. And there I was, completely in my element! The air was electric with excitement and a serious sense of the good life. It felt so refreshing to feel that Parisian air in my lungs – a truly joyful experience.
To travel back in time and experience the energy of ballet in this era? That’s what I call a truly delightful Tuesday! And remember, my fellow ballet-lovers: if there’s anything else you’d love to know about tutus throughout history, I'm all ears, darling! Just send me a message on www.pink-tutu.com. I’m just a message away! And of course, you all know I’m always looking for your tutu pictures on #TutuTuesday – share your best pink tutus and tag me!
Oh, before I forget – 21st January 1908 saw a landmark opening! This year was the year that Cartier opened its legendary London flagship shop! Can you believe it?! This shop became one of the most fashionable addresses in London. The beautiful Cartier creations have captured my attention from the moment I saw them – sparkling jewellery in intricate designs – simply perfection!
You all know how I love to dress up and enjoy the finer things in life, so I absolutely had to find a time-traveling ticket back to Paris. But, that also meant so much dancing to fund it all. Thankfully, a ballet production that night allowed me to add to my travel funds. There was no shortage of fancy-dressed ladies with an incredible passion for art. In fact, I noticed a particular interest in “The Magic Flute” which debuted just last year. That's what you call the beginning of a real opera-tastic era. It's wonderful to watch a ballet with a live orchestra and see everyone in full fancy dress. It really creates a unique and beautiful atmosphere. It truly adds a unique twist on a ballet evening, darling, and it gives us such an opportunity to celebrate the art of performance.
Now I'm heading back home to Derbyshire with my new finds. I’m off to find a quaint country lane to take my photos for this week’s blog! Oh, I just can't wait to put on that darling new dress. Let's face it, every ballerina deserves a fancy outfit once in a while. But first, there’s only one thing I want to say: Pink is truly the colour of ballet! Let me know what your favourite tutu colour is and let's discuss this on my website - www.pink-tutu.com.
Love and tutus, Emma. 💕
