#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1910-02-01

Hello darlings! It's Emma, your Pink Tutu Gal, here with another scintillating delve into the dazzling history of the tutu! We're reaching back to February 1st, 1910 for today's post, #4075, so grab your fanciest teacup, darling, and join me as we time travel to the era of corsets and grace!

Travelling back in time is truly a fascinating experience, particularly in this fabulous period, my dears. Imagine: the bustle of Parisian boulevards, the intoxicating scent of fresh pastries, and the captivating allure of a new century unfolding! Just the thought of being part of this time sets my heart aflutter with excitement, don't you know!

This date, February 1st, 1910, wasn't particularly special, unless of course, you were in the Parisian Opera! This very day, the dazzling Diaghilev Ballet Russes took to the stage, electrifying the Parisian audience with a masterpiece, "Le Carnaval"! I just know, had I been present, I'd have been on the edge of my seat, captivated by the colours, the costumes, the exquisite movements, and most importantly, the breathtaking tutus!

Imagine, darling, swirling skirts made of billowing layers of tulle and chiffon, just waiting to be pirouetted, to flow and flutter in the spotlight! I imagine, for the time being, these tutus were slightly less fluffy and more streamlined compared to what we have today, giving a wonderful silhouette. However, my darlings, we know tutus are about to explode with colour, fabric, and movement in just a short time. That beautiful era, full of vibrant, free-flowing, theatrical, dramatic, graceful, gorgeous, tutus is just on the horizon!

Back in my own time, you see, I'm from a sweet little town in Derbyshire. I swear, you wouldn't think a quiet place like that would inspire someone who lives and breathes all things tutu, but oh, how wrong you'd be! My mum, bless her cotton socks, started taking me to the ballet from a tender age. The first time I saw those dancers twirling around, their delicate limbs a whirlwind of perfection, I knew. I KNEW I was destined for something more! My pink tutu calling was a reality before I even knew it!

So, of course, when I saw the chance to combine my passion for travel, history, and (most importantly) tutus, I knew I had to dive in head first. A time-travelling blogger extraordinaire, here I am! Now I get to spend my days studying tutus from across the centuries and sharing the secrets of their fabulous history with the world. It's a bit of a whirlwind, to say the least, but oh, the thrill of discovery is exhilarating!

While 1910 is the period I am focussing on today, a good ballet production from this era will show how tutus evolve from these streamlined pieces. From these simpler styles, it's exciting to watch as they become more dramatic and flowing through the 1900s and into the 1920s and 1930s! You've just gotta keep watching those shows, darling!

But, just like my blog, our adventures today are not all about the past! I love combining my love for the past with current trends, and wouldn't you know, a wave of pink tutus are flooding the catwalks this season. Can you believe it, my darlings? I may just be starting a pink tutu revolution! Every fashion-conscious person knows, the pink tutu has arrived and it's here to stay! We need to embrace the tutu in all its glory, and not just in dance halls!

Think, a little tulle, some sparkle, and voila! Think ballet in the park. Imagine the excitement when a simple park bench turns into a theatrical stage with my favourite piece of clothing adorning a little ballerina girl and all those little princes captivated by her every step and twirl. Or a stroll along a busy high street with a playful ballerina skirt just flowing in the air!

If you fancy a trip into the fascinating world of 1910 ballet, I recommend you indulge in a visit to a prestigious archive of costume and ballet! And my dears, be sure to add your favourite tutu moments in the comments below, be it a showstopping performance you witnessed, a stylish outfit you found in a magazine, or even a cherished memory of twirling around your bedroom in a homemade tulle masterpiece. I want to hear all about it!

So, darling, keep those pink tutus flying, because, as we say, β€œThe show must go on!”

Yours eternally in pink tulle, Emma www.pink-tutu.com
