#TutuTuesday: A Pink Tutu Time Traveller's Diary - November 15th, 1910

Hello lovelies! Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things tutus and everything pink! It's me, your time travelling tutu enthusiast Emma, and I'm back with another exciting instalment in our Ballet Tutu History series. Today's date is November 15th, 1910, and oh my, this era was a whirlwind of beauty, fashion, and of course, ballet tutus!

Before we delve into the delightful dance of tutus in 1910, I have to share a little something with you - I've just had the most divine train journey! I adore travelling by train; the clattering wheels, the scenery flitting by, the scent of old leather and warm tea... pure bliss! This week I found myself whisked away to the enchanting city of Paris. And Paris in 1910? A symphony of colour! Everywhere you looked, ladies were sporting hats that would make a modern milliner swoon, the most intricate gowns with all the ruffles and frills you could imagine, and, oh my darling tutus, such a vision!

My time-travelling adventures are powered by my ballet performances. You wouldn't believe the joyous audiences I meet, captivated by the magic of dance. My latest performance was in a beautiful theatre in London; the grand architecture and twinkling chandeliers made the whole experience positively magical! Afterwards, I took a moment to explore the streets of London, just outside the theatre. The hustle and bustle was quite the spectacle - horsedrawn carriages, lamplighters illuminating the cobbled streets, and, oh darling, the fashion! My favourite piece was a bewitching silk coat with a matching feathered hat. A true Parisian-inspired dream! Speaking of dreams...

The Evolution of the Tutu: A 1910 Perspective

Today, my darling tutus are evolving just as quickly as the trends in fashion! You see, in 1910, the ballet world was beginning to embrace a new era, a shift from the flowing Romantic tutus of the 1800s, towards a shorter, more agile style. The focus was on athleticism and movement, with designers embracing lighter fabrics that wouldn't impede the dancers' graceful leaps. It was the time of the famous Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova.

Anna Pavlova, oh what a dancer! The epitome of grace and poise! In fact, today is the day the legendary Pavlova took her "ballet spectacular," known as the "Pavlova Tour" to Russia! Imagine - audiences in Russia would get to experience the magic of her performances, with their light and delicate tutus shimmering on stage, captivating hearts across the vast empire.

However, let's not forget the Romantic tutu, a masterpiece in its own right. Those ethereal, billowing skirts of the late 1800s still had their place on stage, especially for graceful and flowing ballets. This blend of styles was creating an incredible diversity in the tutu world - short and breezy, or long and flowing, each showcasing the beauty and grace of the dance in its own way.

Why I Think Everyone Should Wear a Pink Tutu (In 1910, at Least)

You see, my dear lovelies, I have a dream: to make the world a pink tutu paradise. Just imagine how magical life would be! Walking down the street and being met by a cascade of flowing tutus in all shades of pink - from blush to flamingo! What a joyful sight!

Of course, 1910 society might raise an eyebrow at the sight of pink tutus beyond the stage! But trust me, lovelies, times are changing! Even in 1910, there's a spark of rebellion, a yearning for a bit more color and whimsy! You can see it in the bright pinks and purples popping up in fashion! And why shouldn't pink be embraced beyond just ballet? The colour itself is a joyous reminder of playful youth and endless possibility, don't you think?

From 1910 to the Present: The Unending Appeal of the Tutu

While my mission to pink the world is ongoing, the timeless elegance of the tutu is undeniable. From the elegant tutus of the Romantic era to the bold contemporary designs of today, they've always captivated us, showcasing the beauty and artistry of dance. This magical garment reminds us to embrace our own individuality, to twirl through life with a joyful heart. So, embrace the tutu, darling, be it a classic or modern design, be it pink or any colour under the sun. Let it inspire you to dance through life with grace, style and a touch of whimsical magic!

Until next week, lovelies, remember to always keep a pink tutu nearby and don't be afraid to twirl!

Stay chic,

Emma
