#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - June 20th, 1911
Hello my darlings! Itās your favourite pink-tutu-wearing ballerina blogger Emma here, back for another delightful journey through time on #TutuTuesday! Today, we're skipping back to 20th June, 1911, a date bursting with Parisian glamour and the whisper of the upcoming Ballets Russes, oh my!
Tutus, Time Travel & Trains
Now, as you know, my travel budget is somewhat reliant on the success of my performances. Luckily, I managed to nab a rather delightful spot at the OpĆ©ra Garnier last night - oh the spectacle! A production of āFaustā that was just positively electrifying, darling. The tutus? Perfectly dramatic, the costumes absolutely sensational! Honestly, the Parisian fashion is always so captivating, itās just what makes the journey back in time worth it, really! Of course, I always get a bit of a fright when the train arrives, itās a whole different kind of rush!
Back to 1911ā¦
Weāre back in 1911 and there's a real buzz in the air about dance, even here in dear olā Derbyshire, itās felt! Though I daresay, the world's attention is captivated by the whirlwind of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, they are a truly iconic spectacle. We're all waiting to see what this vibrant, bold, and flamboyant company will bring next, don't you know. It's all anyone can talk about!
The Ballet Tutu Evolutionā¦
Now, you might be surprised to know that the ballet tutu wasnāt always quite so ā¦ airy! Our grandmothers were probably wearing more of a Romantic tutu, a bit fuller, a bit more āroundā. Imagine layers upon layers of tulle, a cloud of pink, a little less of the graceful movement we enjoy today. The tutus weāre seeing on the big stage now? Theyāre closer to the tutu-styled āClassical Tutuā - shorter, flowing, and designed for incredible grace. Imagine the freedom of movement! And think about all those twirls! My darling, it makes my toes tingle just thinking about it!
Tutus on the Street? Why not!
Itās time we brought this gorgeous, airy, and frankly, super stylish garment back to the everyday, don't you think? What better way to add a dash of whimsy and joy to the mundane? We could do a little spin around the market with our grocery bags. You know, it just makes me wonder if this āTutu Tuesdayā mission of mine isnāt a bit more profound than it first appeared! Maybe I can use my travels to change the world one twirling, twirly tutu at a time!
Shopping for a Touch of āParisāā¦
Since Iām on a mission to sprinkle a touch of Parisian glamour everywhere I go, you know I couldn't possibly resist a little shopping excursion after that breathtaking opera performance! You can imagine, darling, Iāve returned home with a splendid collection of ribbons and lace. This delightful piece of antique trim will certainly grace the next ballet dress I make. Perhaps even add a little Parisian-style elegance to that new skirtā¦ oh, it just calls out for a tulle embellishment! And for those who are as bold and whimsical as myself, my lovely āPink-Tutuā shop will soon have new selections in all sorts of dazzling hues!
A Blast from the Past - Inspiration From June 1911!
Don't you think this beautiful period just calls for an utterly charming Parisian afternoon tea party? This date also brings a bit of nostalgic elegance - it's just the time when Princess Alice, daughter of Queen Victoria and wife of Grand Duke Louis of Hesse-Darmstadt, died. Her passing marked the end of a truly romantic and royal era, a time steeped in grandeur, etiquette, and just a dash of elegant rebellion (which always excites my own inner artist!) It's that juxtaposition that gives 1911 its character - classic beauty with an element of a new style starting to bloom, itās an absolute joy for a fashion enthusiast like myself!
Tutu Time to Goā¦
Thereās always more to discover, darling, more stories to share, more tulle to be admired. For now, itās time to whisk myself off back to Derbyshire, ready for my next balletic adventures. Be sure to check out www.pink-tutu.com - Iām posting new content all the time! Remember, keep a twinkle in your eyes and twirl with joy wherever you go! See you next #TutuTuesday, my loves!
