Tutu Tuesday: A Glimpse Back in Time, November 21st, 1911! (Post #4169)

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast, and welcome to another Tuesday dedicated to the wonder of ballet and its most glorious garment - the tutu! 🩰 💖

Today we're whisking ourselves back to November 21st, 1911, and, oh my, what a fabulous time this was! Imagine a world buzzing with elegance, where the ladies wear exquisitely tailored gowns, hats adorned with feathers and the men sport dashing suits and top hats. Now picture this all swirled together with the grace and beauty of ballet - just breathtaking!

I'm currently nestled in the heart of London, a veritable hub of fashion and creativity. Theatres are abuzz with the magic of dance, and I've been soaking it all up, from the newest productions at the Royal Opera House to the smaller, intimate stages bursting with local talent. This week, the big buzz is all about Anna Pavlova. Her grace and artistry are simply unmatched, a true embodiment of the ballerina spirit. The beauty of her dance, the sheer flow of her movements... it truly is a privilege to be here to witness her talent.

Speaking of talent, did you know that November 21st, 1911, also marked a milestone for our beloved Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes? It was the date they debuted "Le Spectre de la Rose"! It's one of those truly memorable ballets, you know, with the beautiful, romantic choreography and exquisite music. Just imagining those swirling dancers in their tutus - it's enough to make you want to twirl around the room!

Speaking of twirling and tutus... I must confess, darling, this time travel lark can be quite the fashion challenge! While I adore the style of 1911 (just imagine - frilled necklines, long flowing gowns, exquisite lace!), it's not exactly "tutu-friendly". It's taken a little ingenuity, let's say, to create my travel ensemble. But no matter, for a true tutu-lover like myself, fashion is a never-ending source of inspiration! I just have to pick and choose elements from this decade and make them my own!

Think soft pinks and light blues - the perfect complement to my pastel tutu, you know? I've been incorporating delicate lace trimmings on my bodice, opting for shorter, graceful skirts and, of course, always choosing shoes with a feminine flair.

This week, I've been especially enjoying visiting the antique shops in London. I just can't get enough of the gorgeous hats, bonnets, and fascinators - some of them adorned with the most exquisite feathers! They'd be absolutely divine to add a touch of Victorian chic to a tutu outfit, wouldn't they? Just imagine: a tulle tutu in the softest shade of blush, paired with a hat boasting an intricate arrangement of ivory feathers... Now that's a look for a true ballerina, don't you think?

So, there you have it, darling. My latest journey through the history of tutus has brought me back to a period of stunning dance and magnificent fashion. November 21st, 1911, was a day for the dance enthusiasts, a day to witness brilliance in both art and performance! I hope you enjoyed this peek into the past and I'm sure I'll have many more fascinating finds to share in future Tutu Tuesday posts. Don't forget, it's a ballet tutu for every occasion and, who knows, maybe one day I'll even convince everyone to embrace the glorious pink!

Until next Tuesday, my loves!

Keep dancing and stay stylish!

XOXO, Emma 💖
